Since yesterday, Breezie has not been able to balance well using his right feet. Looking closely today, I didn't find any cuts, swelling, or anything visible.. he isn't able to tuck in his feet.. He seems to keep his toe (front longest finger) a bit up while perching too. He is eating well, preening, drinking, walking around wobbling in the cage.. he had a bald patch over his cere, but I can see some pin feathers coming from there.. I'm not sure if he injured himself or had a fight with Cookie in recent days.. there's a night lamp always to help them with night frights.. and there's nothing in the cage that's obvious to cause injury... since we had been in separate room and had been keeping unwell, we couldn't check up on them in detail & also in order to keep some distance from them too. This is how he sleeps.. We are home quarantined and it's not possible to take him out for a vet consultation. I did apply turmeric mixed with coconut oil on his feet, as an antiseptic.. Cookie isn't letting him stay at one place.. pushed him down the perch multiple times last night..she is bullying him! should I separate both of them? I'm ready to shift cookie to another cage, if she bullies him one more time.. Breezie isn't able to place his feet on flat surfaces and instead curls it up entirely, so I have added water and food at his perch level too. It's painful to watch him like this.. what else can I do to help?

He is standing on one leg all the time now. I nudged him to eat the seeds.. he ate moong beans and some chopped veggies in the morning.. but only when handfed or near him.
I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now. This would be the worst time for the birdies to be taken care of..
I have tested positive for covid too and I know me and my hubby will recover. But at least, I didn't want any more of us sick..π€¦ββοΈπ

it is such a worry especially when you are not well yourself. skysmum recently posted about Bailey, although is foot did look puffy, but he had a straightened toe.. she has been giving him Apple Cider Vinegar and it is helping. so it is possible Breezie has knocked it somehow and therefore it should sort itself out. I know Bailey has the ACV for suspected arthritis as he is nearly 8 - but I know ACV can do no harm to buds and is often given anyway. could you get any, by amazon/post to see if it helps?

I just went back through some of the posts on here, and it was 2-3 drops per 100ml.. not sure if that was as a preventative etc..

For today, since it's already their sleep time, i gave 3 drops in 100ml water.
Since he wasn't eating seeds or millets, I tried boiled moong beans.. he ate all of it, only when I hold the food bowl upto him.. at least some food in his stomach.. He must be in so much pain.. π I hope he feels better soon...

Poor little guy! Since you can't see any injury, maybe its just a sprain or something similar. If it is a sprain, I would think it would be resolved in about a week? I give my guys ACV water every day, 3 drops in 100ml. Maybe it might be best to separate them if Cookie is bothering him so he can relax and let it heal. When you are able to watch them, you could let Cookie out to go visit him. I hope Breezie heals up soon.
I also hope you and your husband are not too miserable with the virus and not infected too badly. Wishing a speedy recovery for you both.

I had to separate them, since Cookie had been pushing him off the perch and he fell down again.. We won't be able to visit even a non avian vet until we test negative.. so we don't want Breezie to be in more trouble.. I did check under his feet, but nothing is visible to me..
My heart breaks at them being separated. Breezie flew right at the cage gate and screamed his heart out at me.. I'll have screaming sessions from both tomorrow for sure. However for now, it seems the best solution.
Me and my hubby are feeling alright, no severe symptoms now.. hoping for the best & waiting for these days to pass.. we just sleep like a log.. and our house is a complete mess π

Hopefully the separation will be short-term mona. How typical that you and your OH both have Covid when this happens. It must be so worrying. Iβll keep everything crossed that Breezie starts to use his leg again soon. The housework can wait...you both need to get better first. Wishing you a quick recovery - all three of you!

You might let Cookie out to fly around but keep Breezie's cage closed so she can't get in. She may go perch on Breezie's cage to visit. That may calm them down and stop the screaming but Cookie won't be able to knock Breezie off a perch.

As ffiscool said, ive just had a session like this with Bailey, he was holding his foot up all the time and one toe was very ridged. With him the top of his foot was very puffy but he had no sores on the bottom or signs of gout. I removed his leg ring and increased the ACV to every day, 3-4 drops in 75ml. ACV is a good anti inflammatory, i remember my dear dad swore by it many years ago for his arthritis. I'm assuming Bailey's could be arthritis because of his age but he could well have sprained or hurt it in some way. If the ACV had not helped i was going to take him to the vet but after a week on the ACV he was noticeably better and now, 6 weeks in he is using it normally and the puffyness has reduced. Wish you and hubby a speedy recovery mona , im sorry you've been unwell with the horrible virus

The ACV certainly wonβt hurt him and good that he is separate from Cookieβs bullying. Since there is no obvious injury, redness or swelling, all you can do is wait it out. Have you checked further up his leg for anything untoward, and is he using the leg at all? The way he is holding it suggests to me that it is a foot issue rather than leg, but it doesnβt hurt to check out the rest of the leg for any injury or swelling.
Iβm presuming the weird colour of his foot is from the turmeric. Put some cayenne pepper into his water instead, if you want to give him some pain relief.

I will give him ACV. I'll check cayenne pepper availability too.
There's nothing else visible on his leg.. sorry, I meant to write foot for the post title. The color is due to turmeric..
He is using the right leg while hopping up and down the perches and ladders. He can't balance on food bowl and cage base, but he can on the perches. If he tries to walk fast on the perch, he would imbalance..
