I have a Duster, its 6 weeks old and still in the nest box.Its 2 brothers are in the youngsters cage and the hen has 6 full eggs in the box.So what should I do with it.
For those of you who dont know what a duster is, they grow feathers 3 to 4 times the length of a normal bird and do not usually feed them selves.Ive seen them as big as footballs. Should I. a) Leave it in the box with the hen and chance it being attached or tramping the young as they hatch.
B) Put it on the cage floor and leave the Cock bird to feed it instead of feeding the Hen and Young as they need feeding.
C) Cull it . Or Perhaps someone else has another idea.Allan

While I don't know if you should leave it in the nestbox or put it onto the cage floor as I have not yet bred budgies I do not believe that you should cull it. Is there not someone who could look after it and hand rear it? I know that feather dusters don't tend to live long but I'm sure if someone has the time to care for it then it will have a better chance
