We have a new visitor to our garden and I am sad to say that I dont think he is very well :/ I think he may be one of our flock that I haven't recognised before. At first I thought it was one of our usual residents named "white tips" but on closer inspection, his white feather is an inner primary. He doesn't wear a leg ring, but he came over to me IN our garden for food so I think he was happy enough to be in my presence. Only thing I can do for the little fella is give him food and water and hope that he'll be ok. He may have just had a rough night as it has been very windy here or flown into a window somewhere and is temporarily stunned. (well that's what I'm hoping for at least). Lets hope he will pick up. Pete the pidge:

Hope Pete picks up. You’ve done your best so hopefully he’ll start to eat a little.

Good that he lets you near enough to give him food and water. Hope that he does perk up and any predators leave him be.

Hope Pete is doing OK. He's in a good place with you to look out for him.

Well! Am delighted to report that throughout the day he managed to have a little pootle round our garden, eat and drink, rest and eat and drink some more! In the afternoon when I went out he was a bit wary of me so I took that as agood sign and he'd started to feel better. All his food was gone so I gave him a load more and he ate with a little more verocity And by about 4.30 he flew off! Am absolutely delighted! Goodbye Pete, I hope I do get to see you again? I will certainly look out for him if he comes to feed with the usual flock (does a sort of groovy happy dance)

That’s wonderful news. He clearly needed a pit-stop. It would be great if he returns no doubt looking for his food!

Glad to hear Pete's perked up and flew off, looks ill sitting hunched up there but seen a few like that and its usually the result of a hawk attack. The birds will fly blindly in any direction into power lines, trees, buildings etc some even head low along roads being hit by lorries/buses, and normally will fly till exhausted and just drop down anywhere. Not saying thats what happened here though as any kind of scare could have made him panic and as you thought hit something and was just stunned but anyway its a good ending

Yes I thought so too ron (about looking ill) and that is a VERY good point you make about a potential hawk attack as we do have a few falcons round our area. We live near to a wooded area, plus we have seen sparrowhawks on our shed roof and pereguin's circling above our flats!

I would love to see that too Marianne The peregrine's deadly for pigeons and studies I've read say they account for at about a 5th of racing pigeon deaths outright (they find the rings in the nest sites)how many are killed fleeing after an attack is unknown but would bet its a fair amount too.But thats nature and you cant love birds and dislike such a graceful quite beautiful creature like the peregrine for doing what comes natural
