That's pretty much what my lot get. So I can't give Penny any more than she's already getting then. I keep all my budgie meds and vits in the fridge. She's probably had enough of boys M You do have to be careful with calcivet, you can overdose. I always remember Barry saying he uses two 5ml teaspoons in one litre of water and keep in the fridge, only give 1 or 2 days a week.

skysmum She may have had enough of breeding but I bet she misses her boyfriend. Sad that they are parted.

Well you can give to breeding birds for 5 days a week so i guess you could give her 3-4 days a week as an initial boost for a couple of weeks. Ahhh bless her, i bet she will be missing her Husbud

Husbud! Good luck with her, Marianne. She is very lucky that you found her.

Penny seems to spend a lot of her day sitting on one of her shelve platforms. She barely uses the perches and just climbs around using the bars.

Perhaps that’s really comfortable for her as she gets to spread her weight? She looks content enough Marianne Marlow. Can’t believe how quickly the week has gone since you spotted the advert and rehomed her.

Yes, she seems comfortable, she sleeps on the higher platform. Next week I am going to see if I can get her to eat vegetables. Tried carrot, dill and basil and she would not touch them! It's gone so fast, she's been with us almost a week already! Perhaps that’s really comfortable for her as she gets to spread her weight? She looks content enough Marianne Marlow. I keep wondering if I should get her a flightless friend because it's unlikely she'll be allowed out as she cannot fly at all

Mine love sugar snap peas the best I think. I’m going to try them with mashed sweet potato tomorrow. They didn’t like it just cut up - fusspots.
Have you any idea how long it could take for her to have enough chance to recover her calcium levels and feel well enough to fly, or do you think there’s some actual damage to her wings? Would she be safe in the evenings after quarantine to come out when Eve is in bed just for a little runabout and have a few toys on the floor? Is she vocal and responding to the other budgies?

How do you serve the sugar snap peas? With my budgies from years ago they would eat them off of a clear plate but this lot wont. I don't know how long recovery would take or even if she will recover. I don't think there is anything wrong with her wings. JoJo's wings were fine, a vet took a look at them, she just never flew. Maybe she did not learn to fly? I hope her tail feathers come through, at the moment she just has tail coverts and they are straggly too. Yes, I had thought about her running about on the floor, I could make that safe for her, when Eve is in bed. She is vocal, I have heard her sing, in her squeaky voice and also squawk. Aww it must be like taking a load off, the flat perch.
Bailey, he did like sugar snap, but loved peas in the pods more, split open so he could have the peas

Penny looks so comfy on that platform. Munchy likes a platform these days. Mine have given mange tout or sugarsnap the occasional nibble but no other interest. They really vary how much they go for their veggies. Been smashing strawberries lately. If she can have safe floor time out of cage then that's great. As for getting her a flightless friend, I would personally suggest waiting until she's finished quarantine and see how she reacts to the others. Although that would mean a month of her waiting for a friend's quarantine to finish if she's really eager for a friend.

I peg the sugar snap peas whole inside the cage and they love nibbling at them. Henry especially loves them! They wait next to the clips every morning, knowing the routine far too well. I also sometimes add them to the kabob. I try and vary the veg I peg up every day and I make a chop that lasts a few days, which I keep in the fridge; I mix red pepper, apple, carrot, cucumber, sprouted beans, spinach, kale…the usual favourites. Do you think Penny would pick out the bits she liked from a little chop of some grated and tiny pieces? You could sprinkle with red millet to encourage her? You could literally peg sugar snaps to anything really.
Penny might be enjoying some peace and quiet as she was obviously bred a lot previously, plus do you think your older buds who need a bit of a hand up (is that Blithe and George? - trying to remember without checking the post where you mentioned them) would enjoy keeping her company after quarantine?
