I'm not sure that she was allowed to raise any of them. I think that her owner may have tried to hand feed all of them. I do not know if they all survived or not. I believe they may have been taken as soon as they were hatched and then she bred again. No idea how many times. Poor Dean Stockwell, I'm sure that he is still beautiful. I feel so sorry for the life she's had. Goodness knows how many chicks she's raised. I don't think she would be very impressed with Dean Stockwell's looks though as he is very bald these days. He's still got a full head of feathers, but he's missing them from most of his front and his back. He doesn't seem to mind though.

That’s horrendous, it’s like budgie farming. No wonder she’s so worn out. She must be absolutely loving her new home, getting lots of care and attention and not being pestered by a mate. Great to see her eating some dill. Slowly, I think she’s relaxing and willing to try something new. I can’t wait until her quarantine period is over to hear how she gets on with the others. It would be lovely if she made a friend.

It makes me so sad that people treat animals like that. I hope he doesn't have any other hens that he is treating in the same way. Marianne Marlow yes, he is still beautiful in his own scruffy way. He's an little menace though.
I was just thinking about Penny's posture and how she lays down rather than perching. If she's spent most of her life sitting on eggs in a nest box then that's probably all she's done. She's probably not used lots of her muscles in a very long time and it can't have been good for her wings. I'm glad that she is starting her new life with you and I'm looking forward to hearing about her progress.

I didn't think of it that way, but yes she does sit like that all the time. She fell off her perch half an hour after she was covered this evening. My husband uncovered her so she could find her way to a ladder. She managed to struggle up to the bars from the floor without a ladder. It's the first time she's done this. I'm hoping this is a sign that she's getting stronger. 🙂 It makes me so sad that people treat animals like that. I hope he doesn't have any other hens that he is treating in the same way. it does sound very possible, re the sitting position most of her life, so sad regardless
but good she can climb a bit, maybe she is also now not afraid of anything, if she ever was that is, but now she can relax and as said, not be pestered by a mate.
but if she keeps on climbing a bit, she could well strengthen her muscles. is there a sort of budgie vitamin, or something to help improve bones/muscles

It does sound like she's getting stronger already and I'm sure her muscles will get better and better once she is using them more. It's such an exciting time for her and she is going to flourish.

I'm not sure how exciting she's finding it, she can hear the other budgies and keeps pinging the bars as she wants to see them. It does sound like she's getting stronger already and I'm sure her muscles will get better and better once she is using them more. It's such an exciting time for her and she is going to flourish.

Have added more rope perches and shelves for Penny, to make it easier for her to get about. She has 5 rope perches and 4 shelves. She seems to like it so far

Looks like a great set up for her.
I'm so glad it was you who got to give her a forever home Marianne, she's a lucky little girl.

Thank you. It's just such a shame she cannot fly. Looks like a great set up for her. I'm so glad it was you who got to give her a forever home Marianne, she's a lucky little girl.
