Today’s offerings… Veggie chop with spinach, sweetcorn, red pepper, mung bean sprouts, cucumber and carrot. Pegged up around the cage sugar snap peas, spinach, dandelion leaves and grass seedheads. Veggies are all I offer in the morning and the seed comes at lunchtime or mid-afternoon. iodine in their water today too.

Glad they're enjoying their veg! It's great to see them eating what you give them and enjoying it so much. My little tinkers seem to leave most of theirs untouched even if it's all that's available (and they do know that it's edible). And when they do get really into something it's usually because it contains something like quinoa, brown rice, sweetcorn or peas, and then they leave very wet droppings all over the surfaces that take some scrubbing! I swear Munchy used to enjoy vegetables more when we lived with my grandparents and they only materialised once a week.

It’s a relief that they eat most of what I give them. I think once one starts, the others follow; perhaps they have a fear of missing out and then discover a taste for new things after having it a few times. Jasper is eating much more fresh now also and there’s nothing at the bottom of the cage and the clips are empty, so I’m very happy with her. My late budgie Gaia hated having anything without seed at least sprinkled on it. She wasn’t a fan of vegetables at all.

That's really good. I'm going to try this lot tomorrow with clipped up veg and some finely chopped in their bowls, so that I can have a look when I get home to see what was more popular. (And not have to hear Pippin's protests at the lack of seed. ) It's not too hot at the moment, but if they prefer chopped then that makes it awkward in the height of summer when I'm working. :/ Unless my housemate would be kind enough to come in and check the veg for me. Larger chunks seem to last longer, less surface area I guess.

It's lovely seeing them enjoy their veg. I've not tried my boys with chopped up veg. They loved their clipped up green veg though. I can't get them interested in other colours yet though.

That looks delicious 😋
Mine are scared of larger pieces of food, except any green leafy thing.. for everything else, I have to always chop it down..

That looks delicious 😋 Mine are scared of larger pieces of food, except any green leafy thing.. for everything else, I have to always chop it down.. Thanks 😊 Louie and Luca were a bit wary in quarantine when I pegged things in but in a separate quarantine cage Ivo, Otis and Henry were always straight there like a shot, so I think Louie and Luca have now watched the others eating and are copying like good buds. Mine will completely eat leaves hanging up and sugar snap peas but they also enjoy their chop. I haven’t tried them with much fruit yet - a little kiwi and apple - so I’m looking forward to making some fruit salads in the summer. Last year we did a big bowl full of every fruit going for us, then we had a small ramekin dish of guinea pig-safe fruits, the same for the dogs and Emilia the hen loves eating up melon seeds. The tortoises got the tops off the strawberries. Only the fish didn’t get any. 🤣 This year I’ll be able to try the buds with much more. I’m aware of the higher sugar levels so it would be an occasional treat day for fruit kabob. I think I’ll put a big towel over the sheet I usually lay over the dining table to catch the fruit juices and just pop fruit on a plate for them to try. I’m sure they’ll be quite amusing. Goodness knows what colour their faces will turn, especially Ivo who seems to enjoy having a face like the Hulk. 😂

My guys will not touch broccoli! I put some in their dish everyday for a month with their other food. They ignored it except to push it around to get the other food! I give them sprouts late morning and they come running for it. They have learned to love spinach leaves and between them will eat one leaf when I give it to them. I find it amusing what the different budgies here will and won't eat.

I think if they turn their beaks up every day for a month, it’s safe to say they don’t like broccoli. 😂 I'm interested to see if their taste buds develop as they get older and if they’ll be more willing or less to try new things.

Hi, for any of mine that turned their beaks up at raw veggies especially broccoli we used to cook/steam it for them and the majority would eat it that way, then after a few times being cooked can move onto giving it to them raw, didnt always work but might be worth a try. Apologies if already mentioned , always forget to read the thread through properly first

Great to see them enjoying a lovely selection of veggies.
Mine are now getting stuck into seeding grasses every day, and loving it.
