I recently just had my budgies breed for the first time. Not intentionally. However i decided to let them give it a go and would try to keep a watchful eye. She laid 8 eggs 4 hatched within 3 days from each other. She has actually been doing a good job taking care of them and continues to incubate reamining eggs. A few days later another hatched it was so much smaller to the other chicks at this point. Everything seemed fine then i found the baby somewhat flat and dead. Thought maybe something had just been wrong with it. Then another hatched it seemed lively and healty. In under 24 hours it seemed the same thing happened to this chick as well. Still have one more egg to hatch the other is a failed egg. What is happening to the new chicks. Are they being crushed, killed by mom. Do i need to hand raise last chick

Could be mom or siblings. When there is that much of a gap between hatchlings the bigger ones fight to be fed from mom. She could also be killing them because she feels like she only has enough resources to feed the ones with the best chances of living. So, try to add more food and veggies in there and change the water often. Good luck and if you need anything else feel free to ask
