This is a tribute to our budgie named Pixie. He suddenly showed signs of illness almost 5 days before we had to let him pass on. The medicine the veterinarian gave him did no good. He was no longer able to hang on at that point.
It was just like Pixie to power through as long as he could without complaint. Although birds try not to show signs of illness by nature, I think Pixie had a lust for life that went beyond that. As a human being, I can honestly say I could not be as appreciative of life, and as courageous in death as Pixie was. It's good that he knew, as any animal instinctively knows, that his human parents did all we could to ease his passing because of our love and compassion for him. It seemed he understood it was time for him to fly over to Rainbow Bridge, and live as he never lived before.
And by "fly over", I mean he "flew over" that bridge. He's not waiting at the end of it, longing for the day he can be reunited with his loved ones as the poem suggests. Oh no. Pixie didn't mess around when he had his sights set. He went straight to Animal Heaven without delay.
It's good to think of Pixie living pain-free and full of joy! I like to imagine he can now sing with some semblance of a tune and has a solo in the "Angel Bird Chorus"... and how nice if he joined an "Angel Bird Dancing Troupe", where his talent at bopping around on a perch is duly respected. I will also imagine he's going to the "Angel Bird College of the Performance Arts" for further training. (If you're listening Pixie, just saying
Thinking of Pixie flying higher than he ever imagined, and enjoying all his favorite foods, and basking in the sun are just a few of the thoughts that take that cutting edge off my grief. Pixie, you are the little bird who only wanted to have fun- and who wouldn't love such a precious little boy? I smile and chuckle because I'm trying to remember the delight Pixie brought into this world. I can do that sometimes- even through my tears- because Pixie was a creature to recall with love and respect. He would like that I remember him with happiness. All of our precious animal friends would want that. So here's my salute to you Dear Pixie... you little rascal... you captured my heart and will hold it forever! <3
