Didn't want to derail Barrie's thread on perches so.....I've bought Sid and Mischief a new perch, well it's actually a bungee bouncing rope type thingy! it's quite big, but I'm sure they said it was for 'medium'...I suppose mine are small size birds!) Anyway, it's only been in a couple of days and I know it takes a while for them to get used to something new but I really think I startled them with this too big and they won't go near it as yet. They have given it some curious glances, I just hope they do use it as one or two things I've tried haven't worked. I got a 'tent' thing for them a while back but ended up taking it out again as they wouldn't go near it and it just gathered dust! They could have such fun on this, especially Sid as he loves hiding behind things and playing.... So here's hoping!!

I usually try putting my birds onto anything new I add to the cage. It may take a try or two but generally they will hop on, even if they just hop off again. I have one of the same things, Jean, and the birds are fine with them (size-wise I mean). So just give them time to get used to the idea. I also like Mick's idea - bribery! Always a good idea. I have some sisal rope wound around and about over the tree perch I made for mine. To start with Smudge wouldn't go anywhere near it, but over time she has had to climb on it if she wanted certain things, and now doesn't baulk at hopping onto it.

Agree with Hezz, have always said that with Mont she needs to be "introduced" to a new item. Bit like well if I touch it then eventually Mont's thinks it must be safe!

Sam, you just need to say "Monty, this is such an ugly thing don't you think? How much more beautiful it would look with a gorgeous Monty to jazz it up!! How about you hop on, and we see if I am right?" ;D ;D

I agree with Mick, hang a piece of millet up at the top of the boing (thats what they are called ) plus try a favourite toy too. My budgies love their boing and they haven't had it in their cage for a while so I will be putting that in tomorrow

Enough to hang on the top of the cage by a clothes peg! Not sure about the favourite toy as the ones they like most won't fit 'up there' but if no progress with the millet in a few days, I'll put my brain into gear again re a toy.
