Hi all,
It's been a while since I've been on the forum but I'm worried about my boy Alfie so I thought I'd see if anyone has any advice.
He started going downhill last weekend but I thought it was just a heavy moult and he was feeling miserable. Tonight he is completely fluffed up and almost rocking on his perch. He keeps opening and closing his eyes but hasn't chirped today. I had some Guardian Angel but it went out of date so I ditched it a while ago. I've ordered some more today but I can't help feeling it might arrive too late. Do you think here is there anything a vet could do based on those symptoms? I don't want to stress him out by taking him if there is nothing a vet could do.
I think he's about 9 1/2.
Axx

Bless him, poor little guy. I think I would take him to the vet. He might just have a simple infection. You might give him apple cider vinegar (3 drops in 100ml water) until you can get him to the vet and the Guardian Angel order gets delivered. Hopefully more experienced people will have some good ideas for you.

You owe it to him to have him checked out. It may simply be old age playing him up, but if it isn’t and it is something treatable, you would never forgive yourself for not trying. In the meantime, keep him warm, calm and contained, and lower his perches so that if he does lose balance he won’t fall too far.

Thank you. He's a miserable git sometimes but I love him and hate to see him so unhappy.
I was watching him just now and thought he looked like he was struggling to poop. I then realised there was no poop immediately under the perch he's been on most of the day which was odd. I checked his bum and saw he was caked in poop. I took hold of him, which he was not best pleased about, and cleaned with him some warm water and cotton wool. I don't know if that's cause or effect of whatever is wrong with him. I will make an appointment with my vet tomorrow and try and search for an avian vet for him next week.
No apple cider vinegar in my cupboard despite living in Somerset (I assume apple cider brandy would knock his feathers off!) so will try and find some of that tomorrow too.
Xx

I've also seen posting here that say celery leaves can help if your budgie is constipated. Does your grocery store sell the celery with the leaves still on? If he eats greens, you might try that.

I hope he perks up. I’m sure he’s more comfy now you’ve cleaned him.
Lol, he would swaying after one sip

Waiting for the vet now. So worried this might be goodbye...
Hoping that the visit itself isn't so stressful that it does for him before we even get seen.

Just to let you all know I did have to say goodbye.
Fly high Alfie.
I will try and come back and write more when I feel strong enough to do so.
Thank you all for your help.

Thank you all.
My Guardian Angel has just arrived. Should I give some to Chaz whilst she is grieving Alfie do you think?

I wouldn’t unless you see some reason to do so. If she seems depressed, lethargic, not interacting as normal, then possibly, but otherwise, no. Certainly keep an eye on her for signs of the above, and give lots of TLC if she is of the type to allow it, otherwise just give her time to come to terms with her loss in her own good time.
