I have two budgies, approximately 6 months old. Recently I started feeding them sprouted seeds. The way I do it is, I start feeding the seeds after the first day of soaking (before any sprouting), and then each day thereafter until the sprouts are used up. I feel this gives them the best range of nutrients as the nutritional content of the seeds changes over the entire sprouting process.
The good news is, my birds took to eating the sprouts right away. They love them! As soon as I put sprouts in their dish they dive right in. The bad news is, I sprouted some parakeet seed blend (you know, the all-seed type) and it looks like only the millet seeds sprouted. Guess some of the other seeds were either old or had been treated to inhibit germination. So that means I am now looking for a better source for sprouting seeds for my two birds.
Does anyone have suggestions as to the best seed types for budgie sprouts? Grass/grain seeds (millet, barley, etc) should be good as grass seeds make up a large part of their diet in the wild. But what are some other good seed types for budgies? Are there any kinds that should be avoided?
Please share your experiences and suggestions! Thank you!

I use a sprouting mix that contains wheat, brown rice, mung beans and lentils. I feed it to them after sprouting for 3 days which produces good sprouts I have 2 budgies and they love it.

Thanks tweetiepiesmom!
I found a nice seed mix for sprouting at trueleafmarket.com. Their bird seed mix has a nice mix of grains and legumes (but no brown rice). It has millet, sunflower, buckwheat, red lentils, blue lentils, Adzuki beans, mung beans, flax seeds, alfalfa, radish, quinoa, and sesame.
I will give the brown rice a try as well.

Green Leaf Market is a very good source. You might want to look at Sprout People sproutpeople.org/ and Best Bird Food Ever www.bestbirdfoodever.com/ Also feed them fresh herbs and veggies. My guys love wheat grass.
