Yes, blueelephant, reading this thread we do seem to be an accident prone bunch! When I was 6 years old and riding a tricycle, I hit an uneven pavement and went flying over the handle bars and broke my left clavicle! No doctor visit - my father just said "walk it off" (ha! some men!). I still have a calcified knot there which doctors always ask about if I have an X-ray. ariella you will be stunning in your silver shoes no matter how you wear them but I hope your foot has healed enough that you can walk around in them.

Thanks everyone. mona, there’s only myself, my 14 year old son with autism and lots of animals home during the day. I have three adult children, two of which live here but are at work through the day, so there was no one to help me do the animals and I honestly didn’t think for one minute it was more than a bump and assumed it would bruise and be sore for a few days. If I thought there was any chance of a break at that point I would have phoned hubby to come home much earlier. It just seemed silly to have fractured a bone when it was something of nothing. We have a dry sense of humour here and so the kids have called me many things since I did it and we’ve had a good chuckle that only I could get out of bed and immediately fall over nothing and break my foot! Our rescue pug practically lives between my feet and is quite a hazard at times as she’s like a ninja and creeps up and walks between my feet even on the stairs, so the first question my son and daughter both asked was whether Lottie was involved. 😂 suesbird you poor thing, what a really horrid and scary thing to go through, especially during the flight. You must have been in absolute agony and I really hope there wasn’t any turbulence, I knew someone who broke their shoulder in a fall but only a single fracture not three and he suffered dreadfully! 10 weeks in hospital and then a care home, which he loathed, but he wasn’t safe to return home. I’m so glad your shoulder has recovered well. Bet your husband sobered up super-quick in the morning! @indrajitbudgielover I’m glad you and your wife recovered. Never ever fall is a good maxim; if only it was that simple! Marianne Marlow, this is my first injury from falling and although I’ve been to hospital for a couple of reasons, I’ve only ever stayed in overnight on two occasions - like you, one for my firstborn and the second time for my third born as she arrived in the late evening so I needed to stay in overnight. With my other two I was able to go home the same day I delivered them. Eve was early though wasn’t she, so it must have been horrible for you being in there. So, I managed to get my X-ray this morning and I have a subtle fracture of the cortex of the 5th metatarsal and a second possible fracture of the tarsals (bit further back near the cuboid bone) as there’s an overlap which can be indicative of a break. A consultant will check the x-rays and I’ll be contacted should he/she feel I need further treatment - cast, boot, etc - but it’s rest, elevation, painkillers (and ice if I need it for 20 mins at a time) for as long as needed. Might get worse over the coming 48 hours but that’s usual the nurse said. Same advice as yesterday really. She kept exclaiming at the amount of swelling. I told her she should have seen it yesterday 😂😂😂 No boot because there’s no displacement and this bone can usually heal itself well with the care recommendations. It’s about 6 weeks recovery though symptoms can still be present up until 3-6 months and even after that there might be pain or swelling if I walk on uneven ground or am stood for a long period of time. I’m glad it’s the weekend tomorrow and then hubby and daughter have annual leave next week so plenty of little house elves/slaves helpers at home for me. I will certainly be taking good care of my foot and although I will not dare to attempt to walk in my high silver shoes at the end of the month, I will put them on and display them with my feet up! And maybe have one on for a photo while standing like a flamingo. 😉

ooh didn't know that. if it were to happen again, you can get a mouth guard, so that the clenching cannot happen Yes, I bought one from Amazon. I seem to have unusual symptoms as well as the more well-known ones such as nightmares and melasma on my face. All good fun!

ariella Oh no! What a rubbish thing to happen. It's not just you though - I yawned last week while my daughter was reading me a book at bedtime and dislocated my jaw. Cue 4 hour trip to a&e to get it relocated! A broken foot sounds significantly more painful and inconvenient. I hope its not too bad and that you are able to get it all sorted tomorrow. Oh that sounds absolutely awful! A 4 hour trip too for good measure. I had TMJ earlier this year and it was very painful, but apparently another symptom of menopause as I was unknowingly clenching my teeth at night. It took weeks to pass, so I empathise completely with how horrid it must have been to dislocate your jaw. Does it still hurt now? ariella It's uncomfortable but not painful particularly. The muscles tend to spasm a bit as time passes so it gets worse the longer it is out. I think it's supposed to be painful but thankfully not for me! I've done it twice now, and I think it helps knowing what is going to happen. The odd thing is that I walked into a&e feeling fairly rough and then when they finally put it back in place it's instant relief and I walked out feeling absolutely fine like nothing had happened 😂.

Yes, it’s the drop in oestrogen ffiscool. Well, the bruising is coming out now criswell but I’m elevating as much as possible once all animals are done. I can sit on the breakfast bar stool to iron and it’s so fortunate I have hubby and daughter home this week on annual leave. The swelling is starting to reduce a little. I’m ensuring I’m following all advice from the hospital and haven’t heard anything back from them as the consultant must have checked the X-rays by now, so that’s good. I’m being patient and know I’m not going to see huge changes from day to day. To be honest the worst pain I’ve ever had was from a prolapsed disc, worse than childbirth even, so this pain is bearable and nowhere near the pain level and incapacity in comparison. Thanks for asking.

I'm glad the swelling is going down and the pain isn't too bad. Did they give you an idea of how long it will take to heal?

How does it feel/look today? Have you tried putting weight on it?

Thanks for asking ladies. criswell, 6 weeks to get about normally but 3-6 months to completely heal. I might get symptoms if I’m stood or walking for a long time, such as swelling or pain. tweetiepiesmom, yes I’ve been told from the start I must weight bear on it as it’s important for the healing process but to only do as much as my pain levels allow. I’m meant to put weight on it every hour and exercise it even when elevated by pivoting it up and down by the ankle and side to side. I’m managing to hobble about to get my jobs done in the morning and then I’m putting it up through the afternoon and again later in the evening. It is still bruised down the side and up over the top but the swelling has reduced further mona. It’s very tender to touch and as I’m meant to put weight into it heel first, I’m finding a week on that my ankle is a bit sore from doing that as it’s taking the majority of weight on that side, plus my toes go into spasm now and again. It doesn’t hurt as such but they squish together and bend downwards, which is uncomfortable and a strange feeling. I think it’ll be a slow and steady recovery but I’m not in agony, which is good. 😅

It's great you're not in pain! Just take it slowly and it'll soon heal. Oh it hurts, but I’m not in agony. I am managing the pain and when enough is enough, I know to rest.

I hope you're healed soon ariella. I just saw that you asked a question about Eve! Yes she was born at 36 weeks with jaundice, so I had to stay in a few extra days and had already been in for 4 nights before that due to going into labour early. But they were going to induce me at 37 weeks anyway because I had cholestasis of pregnancy, so if she was born any later than that she could have been stillborn.
