He's no better, but is also no worse.
To look at this video, you would think he was fine.
Just taken in the last 10 minutes after I had changed his paper and offered him some water with daily essentials1 in it, to which he took 2 big gulps.

This was him just before I changed the paper, he's done only 3 droppings in the past 2-3 hours. But I am trying to remain positive because at least he's done some droppings which means he has been eating and not just pretending to in front of me.

Can he perch at all Marianne?
Is there any way you could rig up a perch for him in the hospital cage, or is he more comfortable on the floor?
He looks bright enough tucking into the millet.

Such a sweet little guy! Unless you knew he'd had a stroke, looking at that video you would think all was good as you said. As I've noted with people, recovery from a stroke does take time. We are all cheering for George to get better. Thank you Marianne Marlow for letting us know how he is doing.

He does look alert and he doesn't look like he's feeling ill. I'm glad he's no worse. Hopefully you'll see a change for the better soon.

He looks good in the video and seems to be eating well.. Poor baby! 🧡
It's commendable that you are able to manage your flock, sick birdie and a kid at home..

Towards the end of the video it looks as if George just moves his left wing a little in an attempt to keep balance. That’s hopefully a good sign if so, as it demonstrates he’s trying to right himself and has the desire to try and not just give up. I really hope he continues to eat and drink and make small steps of improvement day to day. Come on George!

jellybean I really don't think he could balance on a perch and would just wear himself out trying to perch on it if I put one in. Not that I have any idea how to put one in a pet carrier. He is very alert, he also bites me and wriggles everytime I briefly hold him to change the paper towel. I seem immune to the bites now!

I have the same carrier and I've not been able to fit a perch into it but I do hook a ladder through the gaps around the top so it slopes down to the floor. That probably wouldn't be very useful to him at the moment though.
You are doing such a good job taking care of him and I think he's doing really well.

Thanks criswell. Yes when I take budgies to the vet in it, I also hook up a ladder. That's nice of you to say. I have the same carrier and I've not been able to fit a perch into it but I do hook a ladder through the gaps around the top so it slopes down to the floor. That probably wouldn't be very useful to him at the moment though. You are doing such a good job taking care of him and I think he's doing really well.

Have you tried putting a perch on the floor of the carrier, M? It may not work but it may also give him the opportunity to use his feet in the perching position while he recovers. While budgies can walk around flat-footed for a while, it isn’t their natural foot position and their feet can get tired and stressed being spread out for long periods of time.
A piece of branch the width of the carrier with the ends whittled down to fit through the gaps should work for a perch inside for transporting. My carrier is very similar and this works very well. They much prefer to perch if possible, easier to hang on for a car ride.

I hadn't realised that Hezz, I will see what I can do in the morning. Have you tried putting a perch on the floor of the carrier, M? George this morning, more droppings which is encouraging. I found a selection of perches and things to put something in for him to stand on as per Hezz's suggestion. I decided on the Y perch as it seemed the most stable, at the moment he's just staring at it as if to say "Why have you changed things, I was just getting used to it"

I think the Y Perch was too thick for him to stand on, so I am trying the ladder. I'll leave it a bit longer and hope for the best. I just changed his paper and as well as getting an almighty round of bites, he tried to wrap his feet around my finger.
