Goldie came along about two and a half years after the loss of a major corporate job. I still had a lot of time on my hands when the little yellow bird showed up mysteriously on my fire escape. My home office desk faces those windows, and the sight of a yellow bird (in Manhattan) was unusual in the extreme. As the story goes, she came to me when I approached the window with camera - applying herself to the screen. She wheedled her way into the apartment as I irrigated and fed her. What followed was probably a thousand good photographs and about a hundred beloved videos. She was definitely photogenic. The memory pain of the last 49 days has been comforted by getting certain photographs printed for framing, including this double exposure which easily portrays her joy and energy - still in evidence during her trip to the vet, from which she was not to return alive. Therefore, I understand people who write to their late companion birds. They want so much to have that last conversation where the love and caring are mutually acknowledged. JMS NYC June 15, 2021

It was like she was sent to you for a purpose. There’s a saying about people who come into your life for a reason, whether a short time, a season etc.
She was so lucky to have found you and you her.
The pain doesn’t just go but your photos, memories will hopefully outweigh that and you have those always

I often hear people say that the hen budgies aren't as people friendly as the boys and harder to train. Goldie proved that wrong! She knew where to land and found a friend. I think one day I too will be happy that I've taken so many pictures of my boys.

What a lovely photo. How special to get photos printed to frame and hang. The perfect way to remember her fondly.

Birdies change our lives forever and make those tough times easier for us! I had been through a tough time, when my birdies came into my life.. I would have been depressed, if I didn't have them in my life.. they are my saviors.. I can't imagine how you must be feeling.. but the note for your birdie shows it all..
She is missed, but she had a great life with you.. 🧡

I often hear people say that the hen budgies aren't as people friendly as the boys and harder to train. Goldie proved that wrong! She knew where to land and found a friend. I think one day I too will be happy that I've taken so many pictures of my boys. Goldie was even a bit of a disappointment, at first. I discovered that she wouldn't be talking much, and aside from that I noted her unwillingness even to perch on my finger (unless somehow feeding on millet, but then she eventually starting gnawing on my finger - aggressively). She'd bite any fingertip her her vicinity, so I became the master of stroking down over her beak, a dozen times in a row. She loved it. Yet she made such a strong impression which even included great warmth of affection and even the occasional kisses. She'd fly to my face just touching feathers to me for a split second - over and over again. She had a look of a winsome friend, and the head bob let me know she was thrilled I was there. Routine was paramount. We were happy, at times, just looking one at the other, and that got me particularly emotional when the doctor let me know she had stopped breathing. I didn't even want to go home again. I still have the sense that she is here - a sensation common to former caretakers of companion animals. That habit of living is still there.
