One of my budgies, Holly, has a band on her leg and I would like to remove it as it seems to be annoying her. She keeps chewing at it. Her leg is fine, no swelling or injury so its not for health reasons as such that I would like to, if possible, get rid of the ring but it does seem to be an irritation to her. Only thing is that is isn't one of the typical plastic leg rings, it seems to be made from metal, it is a light silver coloured 09 ring. I have had a quick look at ring cutters but the only one I could find was £31.50!! Seems a crazy price to pay to remove one little leg band. Does anyone have any advice on this? Where can I buy a cutter from for a reasonable price? Is it best to get a vet to do this or is there a breeder local to me that would be willing and able to do it? I live in Leyland, Lancashire.

Most breeders would have a ring cutter. Perhaps you could ask a breeder in your area to help

The nearest to me on that list is Colin Hoggarth but I know that he gave up budgies before January last year as I contacted him when i was looking for a normal grey male budgie. They really need to update that list.

It's definitely a closed ring? My cockatiel had a metal ring when I got him and it was too tight on his leg. He kept holding his foot up and it looked uncomfortable. It was an open ring, but fully closed (no gap). It opened easily, just using my fingers (it was very bendy), so I was able to remove it quickly.

You need a set of SIDE CUTTERS they are not expensive and will be handy in the future if you need them.
