This is Finlay now at 6 months. This was him at 3 months I keep thinking his cere is getting paler. I'm imagining this right? Feel free to say yes he is clearly male š¤£ He just acts so like I imagine a hen would act. Stroppy, bites like no bird I've known before and chews to destruction in a way the boys don't. Oh and he has recently taken to exploring little dark spaces under cushions on the sofa š¤£

II also think his/her cere is looking paler and the white rings around the nares are becoming more distinct.

So wait and see I guess? I'm assuming by 12 months or so it either stays properly blue or changes to be more definitely Henny?

Jasper developed a tan cere at 16 months and she hasnāt returned to pale blue since the boys moved in.
Finlay is a unisex name or gender-neutral (whatever word is used now). I think Finlay is popular as a girlās name in some countries. Just out of interest, how do you pronounce it? I use the old Scottish pronunciation Fin-lay for my son, but I know itās usually pronounced Fin-Lee in England. I love it when I meet someone Scottish who immediately uses the same pronunciation as us so I donāt have to correct them. š

Sometimes with gender determination, "wait and see" is the only option! There was someone who used to post and had a budgie that everyone insisted was a boy. What a surprise when Sam matured to a wonderful girl!

ariella He is more of a Fin-lay than a Fin-lee but I have to admit I wanted to call him Finn! The small person chose in the end. He is also frequently called the first budgie name that falls out of my mouth as I am always getting them all wrongš¤£. I'm not sure what we would do if he becomes a she name wise. It's good to know Finlay can also be a girl's name. We had to separate Toby last week for a couple of days into the vision cage as I was monitoring his poos. The cages were next to each other so he was hardly out of sight. When we introduced him back into the Hamberley again I was really surprised by Finlays reaction. They had all got on fine before, but Finlay was properly cross about him coming back in the cage. He chased him round and squwarked at him loads and even landed on him once!? Is singing another thing to be looking for? The boys sit and chatter away and head bob. I'd just assumed Finlay was still a bit young for that?

I like the name Finn too. Weāve never called him that though; heās our Fins. I know exactly what you mean about mixing up names, but I do it with Fins and our male dog! Theyāre best buds and both the ābabiesā of the family. Weāve always called them our bears and Fins was baby bear, then Little Bear and now heās bigger than 2 of his older siblings we just call him The Bear. š» š Iām always accidentally swapping their names!! My males all chatter away together too. Jasper is more of a shouter and my late hen Gaia was too. Jasper has learned the whistles Iāve taught her and the boys picked them up really quickly, so when the covers come off in the morning, they all whistle to one another, which is sweet. Jasper head bobs though and likes a bit of a bop when the radio is playing a good tune. I think itās going to be a wait and see on Finlay, blueelephant.

Latest cere photo of Finlay. Amazing how much it's changed since he was little.

Looking at this picture and the first one posted on this thread, his cere does look paler. I hadn't seen that before. He's still very handsome. I had to look hard to find his eyes with those floofy feathers and the dark markings in his face feathers.

I think Finlay could be a hen, especially with the hen-like behaviourā¦

ariella Who knows! tweetiepiesmom He is a floofly ball. He has quite the facial expressions at times because of his eyes. It's usually a look of 'what do you think you are doing!'
