I'm in bits today, my beautiful girl Evie passed away this afternoon at the vets
When i uncovered them this morning she looked fluffed and unwell, then to my horror i noticed her straining to lay an egg which was stuck fast and huge. This has been my worst nightmare since we had to do an emergency dash to the vet 4 years ago with the same problem, she was three years old then and the vet managed to remove it whole and amazingly she made a good recovery. She had a brief session of laying a couple of soft shelled eggs about a year or so later but this passed and over time i thought we were out of the woods with this, evidently not
I rang the vet as soon as they were open and he said to bring her straight in.
They managed to remove the egg whole again and she made it through the aesthetic but lost quite a bit of blood. I had to leave her there as they needed to keep a close eye on her, when i rang at 2pm she was rallying and there was hope but when the phone went at 5 i didn't want to answer it, she had passed away shortly before
Im still trying to process this, there was no sign of an impending egg and she was out and about flying around as normal yesterday, She's been a bit clingy with Bailey and sleeping close to him from time to time but that's it nothing more, i guess this could have been her being broody.
It's taken me ages to write this, i still just can't believe she's gone
God bless little Evie, you were such a gentle soul and a friend to all, you were truly heaven sent but i guess they needed you back, we will miss you always
