Aww, hoping he’s comfortable and he sounds happy enough, so wishing you more time together. It sounds possible that his AGY flared and now everything has settled he has a little less to contend with, which I’m sure feels better for him. Well done Brodie.

Yes, he definitely feels better! He seems perfectly content with his quieter & much slower pace of life - Brodie has never been 1 for sitting still or resting so it’s very different for him & me. He has, however, started a moult which seems wholly unnecessary to me & another strain on his body! But, fingers crossed, he’s coping ok so far.

Poor Brodie with his moult. I am sure George will empathise, he is very spiky

The good news about him going into a moult is that generally they don’t moult if their bodies can’t cope. I’m sure there have been exceptions but I can’t tell you how happy I was to see Mango moult the first time after breaking her chronic egg-laying, so look on the moult as a positive, and feed him egg, if he eats it.

As time is passing, Brodie's wings are getting more & more droopy, particularly his right side 1 (when he was 1st diagnosed, the vet said it was only affecting the right hand side of his heart, though it will have progressed, not sure if that’s relevant). His whole body is working hard with both wings & tail bobbing away (I’ve got a video but can’t work out how to upload it,) & the bobbing is getting worse. It also changes depending on how tired he is. Just wondering if anyone has come across any of this? It doesn’t seem to affect him, he is happy enough & does what he wants to, playing (more low-key now though), bell ringing, eating etc

Aw, poor Brodie, he does have quite a tail bob. Does he still fly about?
So, has the vet said that his tail bobs because of his heart problems?

He doesn’t fly now except for what is more of a flutter from his cage to playgym (approx 1/2 metre) & he likes having his toys on top of the cage as he can reach them more easily. The tail bobbing is a late addition, the wing bobbing has been there for some time, it has fluctuated although the general trajectory is it’s getting more pronounced each week. I think it must just be his system/ heart having to work harder?

Is there any way that you could email a link to your YouTube video to your vet?
Just to rule out that he's picked up an infection?

That's a good idea. I’ll see if I can find an address.

Just to let you know, I heard back from our vet & she said that the droopy wings & bobbing are indeed typical signs of heart failure in a budgie. Brodie’s still here but each week there is a decline. He’s a bit puffed up today so I’ve got the heat pad out again although he wasn’t too impressed when I popped him on it earlier!

Good on you for checking with your vet. Sorry to hear he's declining though.

. Poor Brodie, and you. It is so hard to watch decline happening and not being able to prevent it. Fingers crossed he is with you for a while yet.

😒 poor boy. No, I bet he wasn’t. It has gotten cooler He does seem particularly susceptible to temperature changes now, having never been affected by hotter or cooler weather.
