I've been looking for a bigger cage for Willow and have spotted an Oregon Double Door cage which a local lady only used for a couple of weeks before wanting to sell on. So it's second hand but at £70 it seems a good buy and it's dimensions of 78cm wide, 52cm deep and 82cm high are fairly similar to the coveted Hamberley which is 81cm wide, 54cm deep and 92cm high (the Oregon loses out mainly on height). My main concern from looking at the pictures is that it appears to have 4 slide up doors for the seed pots and I know that these can be unsafe and so would need to be cable-tied shut. Am I correct in thinking that the Hamberley doesn't have any openings at all apart from the main door? I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this cage or advice in general? Thanks!

The Hamberley has two small side doors as well willowsmum. One I never use and the other I do to pop in their feeders.

I'm sure Hezz has the double door cage. I can't see the slide up doors from the picture willowsmum. It looks a super cage.

Looks like a great cage. I don't have any huge cages, so I can't really comment.

Thanks guys. ariella do the side doors slide up and down or do they swing outwards ie open like an actual door (if you know what I mean), the same as the main door? jellybean I could see a thicker horizontal bar with a loop at each end, above and below each of the white feeders which made me think that the sliding doors were there but I haven't checked with her. That would be simpler I guess!

willowsmum, I have a Hamberley for my two, the doors open outwards, like this, one either side:-

Thanks jellybean I definitely prefer that type to the sliding doors. The cage I'm looking at does look good but the more I see of the Hamberley the more I want one

It's really shot up in price since I bought mine, which will be about 6 years ago, I paid £79.99 then from Little pet warehouse.

Sorry I’m late to reply, willowsmum. Yes, jellybean has shown the side doors perfectly to answer your question, though my doors aren’t right at the top but another row below. I love the Hamberley and can’t pick fault with it at all. The cheapest I can see after a quick look is a seller on eBay for £113.99 but I feel it’s worth spending the money on. It’s easy to assemble and really easy to clean too. Happy cage shopping.

Thanks jellybean and ariella you have a strong sales pitch there! Good quality, lasts well, I could easily be persuaded Now for some more budgie retail therapy. Is it weird that I enjoy this more than shopping for myself

I love buying for the animals too willowsmum! It’s so much fun. I’m an early Christmas shopper (dare I use the C word??) and have been for years and years but as the kids are adults and a teen, they know it’s not so much lots of pressies but rather something a bit more expensive that they’d like and some bits and bobs to go with it, so I find I get really excited about the animal presents in the same way I used to when I had young children. The only ones I’ve bought so far are for the dogs!! 😂 They even have a personalised stocking each! Enjoy your shopping.

As you know the little slide-up doors can be an escape hatch for a clever bird, but as said, easy to keep closed permanently with a cable tie. I think it is a small issue when considering the reduced cost, as long as the finish is good … I don’t think you can go wrong.

Thanks Hezz I think you're right, a closer inspection is required. Hopefully it's as good as it looks in the pics. One advantage of my search for cage advice on the forum was that I got to show the family one of my favourite Loki pics again. It always makes me smile - hope you don't mind Hezz....... I have the liberta oregon with one main door. I like the little slide up doors though as said, they do need to be secured - I have stainless steel pegs that fit nicely through the gap in the bars. What I don't like is that with no openings at the sides, it's virtually impossible to attach anything to the back, unless you have help.
