So I have cream carpets. I put them in about 8 months ago, all fine. I never wear shoes that I’ve been outside in, in
tonight I thought I saw a thread, I had been ironing, went to pick it up and it was a black long mark. By trying to pick it up, I probably rubbed it in. I have no idea at all what it is. There was a tiny bit near it, in two other places. I didn’t walk it in as not in my hall. It was not there earlier as a) I would have seen it b) I had hoovered
ive patted white vinegar in and put some bicarbonate of soda on top. Will see what it’s like tmrw.
anyone any tried and tested other things I can try if needed. It’s about 1.5 inches long and not wide
this carpet is propypropolene and stain resistant but this is not like a stain. I have wracked my brain but no idea what it is or where it came from. I had a sheet over the top of a door when drying, perhaps was something on top of the door that dropped

That's a bit of a mystery ffiscool. I have no advice for removal unfortunately Hope the vinegar/bicarb mix lifts it. It could be tricky to remove, not knowing what it is.

A picture of the mark might be helpful. Vanish carpet cleaner is good for unknown marks….

Here in the US, there are carpet spot cleaners. You might check Amazon to see what's available. Some of them have a strong odor so you'll need to make sure the budgies aren't nearby but the odor dissipates in a day or so. There are also spot cleaners with bleach in them. Good luck!

A fair few years ago I needed to clean up following a rather explosive illness for someone who had me as their first call in an emergency. The paramedics were wonderful and one gave me a brilliant piece of advice - pour lots of salt in some water and scrub! I won’t disgust you with the details but a couple of hours later, you’d never have known there was any mess at all. My usual method is to reach for the Vanish foam and it’s got up everything in the past, even a spilt curry after more than one applications. 🙄
What a puzzle as to what caused it though…

Thank you, I guessed the details, lol. I’d have been sick
I’m trying vanish in the morning. I thought what if the lead from the iron had something on it, but no. It looked almost like soot.
A mystery I think I’ll never hopefully encounter again

The paramedic was fab and gave me disposable gloves and a disposable apron. It wasn’t the first time I did a clean up job but yes, it tested my resilience to the max. I think I spent almost as long cleaning myself after. Once I’d emptied their washing machine of all that could go through on a hot wash and hung to dry, hubby came home and I headed to A&E, only to find they were so short-staffed, he was lying in more of the same for 3 hours. I did a bit of chasing/hassling nurses but they needed two to deal with him as he was obese. Muggins here ended up doing it with the nurse. 🙄 I do not miss those days, I must admit.
Anyway, hope the vanish gets it up and you don’t get a repeat occurrence.

No one else to do it. His wife wasn’t there…never was when he had a fall. She never did anything proactive to help him and never admitted he’d got campylobacter from out of date meat she’d fed him. But that’s past history now, thank the gods! Hmmm, that’s a really odd mark just there in the middle like that. I’m wracking my brains as I’m sure I’ve seen something similar. A couple of years ago I’d been out and without realising, the lining of my shoe had flaked inside. I took them off when I got home and walked upstairs and only when in my room (also a cream carpet!) I noticed lots of black marks. I was so perplexed but then saw my feet were black! The Vanish was put to good use all the way back down the stairs to the front door.

My fathers step mum was like that.
Whatever it is, luckily didn’t carry on, other that the odd spot. 2nd lot of vanish on it now. It’s def helping.
I hardly ever have shoes on in here. Which is how I broke my toe, lol. Even if I’ve had a box delivered it goes onto bathroom floor to unpack as been in dirty van.

Glad the vanish is working. Hopefully you’ll get it all out. I love my slippers when walking about indoors unless it’s evening after my wallow in the tub. I get very cold feet so in the winter I have my bootie slippers to keep my ankles warm too.

It looks very much like the oil that we have in our door hinges. That is a real flipper to get off of anything.
