The older two in their favourite spot. Had a bit of a shock today. Had them all out to clean the cage, and was popping them back in. Before now they've always run to the back of the nest box as soon as I put them in. I put two in and was just popping the third back in when the middle one ran forward. I caught it as it fell. It seems okay (was only about 6") but I'm hoping there's nothing wrong. Dad is sulking because I haven't given enough (only 3 lots today) spinach. I do keep worrying they're not getting enough food. The cage only has one side to hand food pots on so there isn't huge amount of space, but they always seem starved when I get back from work/son from school and wolf into the food. We've put 3 pots of seeds out, but they only really seem to be eating from one. They must be getting enough from that, or they'd use the others (the others are closer to the ground) surely?

The colors are really starting to show! From the threads I've read about raising budgies, there seems to be one who's a "runner" and the people have to keep an eye on. I would think he'd be ok after falling 6" as long as he didn't get his leg in the way and sprain it. You'd be able to see that by the way he'd move.
Even my guys sometimes act like they've been starved the way they dig into their food. If they were truly hungry, I would think they'd eat from another pot as you suggested.
Looks like you are doing a great job with them.

The oldest budgie The middle one, who is very lively-they were flapping their wings like they were about to take off between pictures. And the smallest: Then all 3 heads: You can see how the oldest one is going to be like dad, and the other two more like mum: This morning the youngest baby had got into the cage and was hiding in the bottom corner. It was very noisy after we'd put it back into the nest box, but I think that might have been because we'd cleaned its feet, which they all hate. It seems fine.

All very sweet. Do they mind you holding them - will they try to run away?

All very sweet. Do they mind you holding them - will they try to run away? They don't seem to mind at all. Sometimes they'll even climb onto a hand if you put it in the nest box. They then climb up arms and like to snuggle into you. The only thing is their claws sometimes get caught on clothing. They tend to flap when you first pick them up, but once they're in a hand they're fine. I took the oldest down to see the adult budgies downstairs this afternoon. They gazed at each other in mutual amazement. Then the baby one decided to hide in my hand, but couldn't resist popping its head up to check from time to time.

How cute! Have you started thinking about names for them? I nominate Winking, Blinking and Nod!

Goodness, they’re adorable! It’s fascinating to be able to see the process from being pink, blind and helpless to now how quickly the feathering process is happening and the beginning stages of being independent! Thank you for sharing.

Just beautiful, the pace in which they feather up never ceases to amaze me, i guess in the wild the quicker the better. Will you keep them?

They're now doing little trips into the main cage. Unfortunately they normally can't get back to the nest box without help. I watched this morning as one stood next to dad eating clearly shouting "feed me, feed me, feed me." Eventually he turned round and gave it a peck. Clearly saying "shut up". As a parent I have sympathy. As a teen boy, my son had more sympathy for the chick. But dad did feed it fairly shortly after that.
The middle one likes exploring. So you put it on your knee and it makes its way round your back and up to your shoulder as I found yesterday when we were cleaning it out. It stopped for a time in a place I couldn't reach and I just had to hope it continued. The oldest just likes to snuggle into a hand, and the baby is a bit nervous still.
