Ha ha ha NOOOO not yet! We have only just got to the eating millet from hand and "erm whats that pink thing holding the millet? Nah, its warm but not edible stage" lol! But we're definitely getting there tweetiepiesmom. The strange thing is, if he flies and gets into difficulties he will let me pick him up with my finger but thats it. He is certainly a strange one. But as I'm sure I've said before...I think he was last in the queue when they were handing out the intelligence

Oh samwiseg I've my dumb blonde in Tweetie Pie and Ira has posted some things about her Pippin (I think that's the one) questioning his intelligence! I put millet out in a different place and Buddy will figure out how to get it with Tweetie Pie looking and straining to figure it out. I'll sit by cheering Tweeie Pie on - come on little boy, you can figure it out!

I’m sorry, it’s tough especially when they’ve been part of our lives for so long. Yes, my Misty was definitely in the ‘remedial class’ of budgies. Everything took him so long to work out, we’d get there eventually but my, he took the scenic route! In contrast, my Brodie is by far the brightest bird I’ve ever known - something of a shock to the system after Misty - even now, he outwits us/ picks things up straightaway! 🤣

Its ok starrymist! I accepted it beforehand as I had a feeling it might be this way for him. And I'm glad cause I never got to see him stress as he left me x Oh, well it seems like Nubbs is in good company then!!!

Nubby update! A couple of days ago, I thought I'd try the millet finger training gig as you know when you get a feel for how receptive they are? Well, it was that time. I positioned my forefinger as the perch and held the millet ready between my thumb and second finger. He stretched, mouth agape...but couldn't reach it. He tried this again with no success. So he jumped round to the OTHER side of the cage and nearly got the millet that way...but I told him that was cheating and moved. So he went back to the original position tried again to stretch for the millet and then looked at me squarely in the face and shouted at me?! And he did this repeatedly so I withdrew and told him we don't have shouty budgies round here. However...we tried again today. And after sitting there sulking, I gradually moved my finger towards his belly feathers and he reached over, stepped up with one foot and got his reward! I know its only the one foot but it's a start. Am ecstatic!

Oh well done both!
Whilst we have no idea half the time what the are saying, you always know when you’ve done something they don’t like. Lol.

That sounds exactly like the routine I went through with my timid skittish Tweetie Pie. Come on Nubby, once you hop on the finger, you'll get all sorts of treats!

Re the shouting, I have one cockatoo visitor who shouts for seed. The others either give a gentle squeak or say nothing at all, just wait to be noticed, but this guy screeches very, very loudly and I tell him the same thing - shouting will get you nowhere, Mister, certainly not any seed. Good going Nubbs, now you just have to move the other foot … who knows how much millet might be offered for two feet on the hand perch.

Well he hasn't been on the finger since the little monkey...he did step up, run up the arm and promptly jumped off and I think he scared himself to death in the process?! Daft bird

He is trying at least; that’s the biggest hurdle.
