Agree. And it will put your mind at rest too, once he’s been seen

Good luck on the vet visit Friday. In the meantime you can continue keeping an eye on him for any improvements. Hope the vet trip is not too stressful for any of you.

I think it's the only thing that will put your mind at rest.
Good luck, and fingers crossed for Charlie.

Hope all goes well on Friday. It's good that he's already used to going in his cage in the car and the vet's exam will put your mind at rest and confirm the best course of action for him. I really wouldn't worry about asking for advice here on the forum, it's what we are all here for, to support each other. We only worry about our buds so much because we love them so much. I'm sure there's a far more eloquent quote for that but you hopefully know what I mean

He is about the same,. His foot still isn’t right , but he is eating ok and his poops are normal. I am not looking forward to tomorrow because I know it is going to stress him , but I need to know what is wrong with him. At least they let me go in with him, I know some vets don’t. At the moment he is sitting on top of his cage talking and talking with a few swear words slipping in 😳😳…. They charge £68 for a consultation …..seems a lot to me but then I wouldn’t know?? He is worth it though 💙

I’m glad he seems good in himself. It does sound a lot but at least the vet should know what’s what.
I think all you can do is talk to Charlie all the time and maybe take millet with

ladybird Sorry, I didn't catch up with the thread. For breezie, a flat platform perch placed at the highest location in the cage helped him to rest his good foot. Apart from that, I used some bamboo ladders fixed horizontally. He sits on top of that resting his entire body on it and the affected foot hanging down. I have actually stocked a lot of ladders and platform perch when he went ill. I need it everywhere in the setup. I have his food and water placed beside the bamboo ladder and flat platform perch. Another food bowl is at other end of the cage. Nothing on the cage base, as it wasn't convenient for him. Also, I had added perches of all different diameters, so he could adjust to the one he liked. Thick towel placed on the cage bottom below the cage liner to avoid any injury if he falls/slips down. A perch placed very low near the cage base where he could hop on and move back up. The less the movement, the better. What made it worse in the beginning was him trying to move around a lot. He gradually almost recovered with all natural herbs, so I sent him again with Cookie. He was so excited that he overused his foot and ran around the entire room and cage. Meanwhile, Cookie chased him around which led to strain on his leg and things went bad. So, I moved him to the smallest cage I had to minimize his movement and let him rest. He stayed in the travel cage for around a month with no out of cage time. He didn't want to come out either. He is no longer in the travel cage, but a cage with less height and more width. I have changed his out of cage perches to all platform perches, round perches or bamboo ladders so that he can land on it to fly back inside the cage. He has issues in front two toes of his right foot and those are bent backwards, due to which he keeps his one leg always up or hanging down. Another friend from social media encountered same issue with a wild dove and she fed him egg food daily and he recovered in about a month or more. We fed egg food to Breezie too but not daily. I don't remember right now, if I missed anything about his cage setup.. About travel to the vet, I took breezie in his medium sized cage, but he really ended up getting a bit hurt at the same place. So, I would really advise the small travel cage, with a flat small pillow or thick pile of towels stacked at the bottom, with a couple of perches on the bottom, cushions all around the travel cage walls.. I made a lot of mistakes with Breezie, not knowing back then what was right. Hope it helps. Also, It's not just a budgie, it's your feathered kid.. It's impossible not to worry. But it's also important to relax yourself whenever you can, so that you can take good care of him. All the best with the vet visit. I hope that the vet can diagnose the root cause and start the treatment for it.. Rooting for you, Charlie 🧡 Keep up the good spirits! 😊 PS: Sorry for a really long post.

Thank you so much Mona that was a wonderful help. Can I just ask where do you get bamboo ladders from? I actually stay in India and bamboo ladders are easily available over here from a vendor in east India. They ship overseas but that would really take up a lot of time. If you still need the vendor info, it's Hi Eco Designs with same name on instagram (https://instagram.com/hi_eco_designs?utm_medium=copy_link) and website (www.hiecodesigns.com) I think any other bird safe ladder with some thin rungs would do the trick too..

I think it's about the same or maybe a little less. I got some custom ones made with less space between the rungs for better support, but he doesn't use it much and prefers the older longer one with more space between rungs.. It would be a trial and error, since each bird might find comfort in different things. This is how mine looks like.. and breezie can't use his right foot at all right now..

We saw the lovely Avian vet and Charlie has badly sprained his foot and it could take a few weeks to heal. She was wonderful with him. She turned the lights off and it was totally dark, but she just put her hand in his cage and gently caught him… She gave him a thorough examination going over every bit of him and said there was no need for an X-ray . She tested his foot reflexes and said that it was definitely the problem. He has got some pain relief medicine ( Loxicom) and it goes in his water. He is very quiet now, most unusual for him, so he will definitely be having an early night……Oh and he weighs 30.0 gr…..he has always been small…….very glad I took him , worth every penny.
