Hi there, one of my budgies has a suspected fatty liver, my vet has recommended sprouted milk thistle seeds but unfortunately I am having a hard time finding seeds. I did however find alcohol free milk thistle extract and I am wondering if this could be a safe substitute? Would I feed this to my budgie by hand or in food/water? Is it safe for my other budgies to consume even if they do not have liver problems?

Milk thistle extract if very safe to use on birds - many of us use it, and it is much more concentrated than trying to feed a bird milk thistle sprouts.
I would start with about three drops into 100mls of water and see how you get on. It is safe for the other birds to drink as well. If you are able to give the other birds normal water to drink at times without compromising the intake of MT for the fatty liver bird, by all means do so. It isn’t a quick fix, and depending on the symptoms of your ill bird, you may or may not visibly notice changes, but should notice improvement in overall general health.
