Hey all! I am fairly new here on this forum (I haven't posted much before) but me and my Mum have kept budgies for many many years (over 20+ years for Mum!). However, we aren't great at genetics and so we are unsure of how to keep a specific mutation if we can. Please could we ask for your knowledge and advice? I think we have a single factor goldenface male. We are trying to figure out, other than getting another goldenface, how else we would keep the visual going? What would happen if we were to put him with a yellow face female? Would this ensure golden face or would it depend upon yellow face single/double factor? Any help is appreciated! Thank you so much! Sam

I can help with uploading photos when on the forum on your phone. See instructions below. Help with genetics I will leave to someone else!
Scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will find a button to click on called "Desktop" or "Desktop Mode". You need to be in this mode to upload from your phone's photo library. Once you've done that hit the REPLY button on the right hand side. Then hit the "ADD IMAGE TO POST" button at the top left hand side. This will take you into your photo library. You can upload your pictures from there.

I can't help with the genetics - its all a mystery to me. Others on this forum are good at it. But I love pictures especially of baby budgies! Looking forward to seeing some.

He does indeed appear to be a single factor goldenface. Breeding him to a normal (non-golden/yellowface) will produce, on average, 50% goldenface chicks. You could get lucky and have an entire clutch of goldenface, or the opposite, but on average it will be 50%.
Breeding him to a sf yellowface will produce both goldenface and yellowface. But if the yellowface is double factor, you will get 100% yellowface and no goldenface.

tweetiepiesmom aaww they're the cutest aren't they!? We will definitely post when we have some! It's a mystery too to me hehe! yellowfacedviolet Brilliant, thank you ever so much for that! We actually think we have two sf goldenface males now after your agreement on the above! In this case, I think we will put a normal blue and see what happens that side and also one of our other girls, Mallow with our other boy...she's technically white but has this yellow wash all over her body. I definitely think she is yellowface but unsure on sf or df (and also type 1 and type 2? Confusing!) It will be lovely to see what colours they would potentially be out of those parents! We really appreciate your help! Sam
