Max us really itchy, he’s on day 2 of s76. He’d had ivermectin before he left the breeder.
this only really heightened after he was stripping the bark of the perch. Is it possible there was something infesting the perch?
he’s also tonight very thirsty. I’m putting that down to the bark as well, I hope it’s that. Although he likes eating and drinking with me there and I was out tonight, so then when I got back he ate and drank.
tomorrow I’m removing that perch. Weirdly he’s got another in there that he’s not touched. I have a new one which I’ll F10
I’ll clean every bit of the cage too

Sorry to hear that ffiscool. Could it be his first moult with itchy new feathers coming in? At least if you've seen him drink lots of the treated water you know he's getting his dose of S76. I'm not sure about something from the perch irritating him but you are doing the safest thing by removing and replacing it and giving his cage a thorough clean. Fingers crossed that solves the problem.

Thank you. It’s weird as he wasn’t like this until 2 days/yesterday ago etc. It might not be mites, but would rather treat regardless.
The bark stripping felt quite manic in how he was attacking it. The replacement I have is also a barked branch, as always have a spare. If he starts doing it again, I’ve got a t shaped perch that’s really meant to go in top of the cage but will be fine inside for now.
He could be getting pinnies through, I thought they didn’t start til about 3 months, but not that far off I suppose

Sounds like a good plan re the treatment and perches. How old is Max now - sorry I can't remember.

I didn’t get his hatch date, but I know towards the end of July, he was fully feathered and I got him nearly 3 weeks later. So I think he was between 7 and 8 weeks old. So he could be coming up to 9 or 10 weeks

It sounds like he could be coming up to his first moult then. I'm not sure how much flexibility there is around the 12 weeks timeline but maybe he's starting a bit early and feeling a bit itchy with it. I have so little experience with this though, sorry. I'm sure someone else will let you know what they think.

Moulting isn’t just age related. Just as all children/babies don’t hit the same milestones on exactly the same day, the same goes for all animals. If the season has rather suddenly changed, even his being moved from an outdoor aviary situation to being a totally indoor bird could be enough to kick off a moult, especially if into an artificially conditioned house.

That makes sense, thank you. I hope it’s that in a way. But everything gets cleaned thoroughly today

He’s scratching less this aftn, so I’ll continue with the s76 anyway. Next lot is 2 days next week.
