For about a week I have noticed that Billy's droppings have been a bit off. They range from really watery to grey and sludgy. He's also been drinking a lot more water. I have contacted several vets, which are either too far away or do not have an avian vet! So I have settled on the Royal Veterinary College and have an appointment for Sunday. See attached photo of my little scamp and his droppings. Apart from the rubbish droppings and insatiable thirst, you wouldn't know he was ill. I'm guessing it's kidney related, He may also have liver issues as I already had to trim his beak a few weeks ago as it was very very long. Billy the scamp in his blue shorts 29/8/21 2/9/21 3/9/21

oh poor Billy.. could excessive thirst be diabetes or do they not get that?
I hope he is ok and it is just a case of some meds

Good that he's not acting ill but the change in his droppings and drinking does seem troubling.
I don't think I've noticed how unique his coloring is! Loving the white tail and how his color changes going from the head down.

He is unusual isn't he. I have never seen a bird like him before. From the back Good that he's not acting ill but the change in his droppings and drinking does seem troubling. Getting him checked by an avian vet seems the best thing to do and hopefully it will be something you can manage with meds. I’m glad he’s fine in himself and hope that continues. Have you got to travel far to the vets? Have to agree, he is very unique with his colouring and very handsome too. I love his blue shorts.

The vet we're going to is the Royal Veterinary College, it's an hour by public transport as I don't drive unfortunately. It's been a struggle to find a good avian vet. I may get a cab home, which will cost a bomb, but will give me some peace of mind. As it's a Sunday it's going to be £68 just for the consult, but it was either that or wait until 13th September and as his condition could advance by that point so I am not willing to take that risk. Yes, I knew it would mean public transport for you and wondered how far you’d have to go. I really hope you can keep Billy as calm as possible through the journey. I’m sure it’ll seem like a very long hour. I really hope you get a diagnosis and the means to manage it so the trip is worth every Penny and the stress for you both. I’d have made the same decision as you and gone for the earlier date too. I’ll be thinking of you both on Sunday.

You are doing the right thing. As a side note, the droppings, I do remember my vet telling me Mabels weird droppings were jaundice (she had liver issues) and they were like a grey/silver colour. Good luck tomorrow, least you will have some answers and help xx

Good luck tomorrow, Marianne. Fingers crossed that it's nothing too serious or that it's easily managed.
Billy is a very beautiful boy.

Thanks all. I've put some white paper at the bottom of his cage to catch some fresh droppings to show the vet.
I'm going to have to keep him in the cage all morning as I'd never catch him again, he rarely goes into a cage in the daytime and if he sees one of us get up, he quickly exits!
