Marianne Marlow you could post a picture and we'll give you an opinion. When I tried sprouting bird seed, only about half grew. That looked much the same as mine, hope you've better luck Marianne.

Absolutely, add some ACV to the water before last rinse and let them steep for 30 minutes.
If you want you could leave them longer, but usually after 3 days my alfalfa sprouts are good to go, so that is why I fed the Foreign Finch Mix after the same time.

jellybean. For what it's worth, I have put them out for the birdies. I gotta say, it's a lot of work, rinsing them 3 times a day for this meagre lot I'm expecting them to reject them too!

Lol. They might eventually after all, it is very dangerous, lol
I’m trying Max with fruit, it became a game. I pretended to eat it, Max on his landing platform - he thought a toy, kept beak bashing the fruit, running back and forth

How long can I leave the seed out?

Yes, Marianne Marlow that looks very much like what I got when I tried to sprout bird seed. Did you try to feed it to your budgies? Sprouts are definitely better than seeds but I've heard two opinions on how healthy soaked seeds are. One camp says the seed needs to actually sprout because it uses stored fat and sugar when it grows. Without a shoot, the soaked seed still has the same amount of fat and sugar. Others dispute that and say soaking itself prepares the seed to grow and starts using the fat and sugar. You might try to feed it to your budgies just to see if they'll nibble. Sorry - I didn't read far enough along in the thread. You can leave them out for 4-5 hours. Since you've rinsed them in ACV, they'll just dry out which the budgies may even like better!

tweetiepiesmomArgh, they have been out 5 hours with not even a nibble yet! So I have to bin them now? This is Haiths foreign finch mix, it's mixed millets and canary seed.

I think you can leave them out much longer. I put my sprouts in a dish in their cage overnight in case they get hungry overnight and if they want something to nibble before I get them their morning mash. They've not gone bad - just dried up a bit. It seems people use 3-5 hours as a rule of thumb for anything fresh but many things can be left longer.

Yes, they seem to have gone a bit dry, but don't look inedible. But what do I know, I'm not a bird I think you can leave them out much longer. When I get my bottom in gear I am going to try this. Marianne Marlow I expect the same enthusiastic reaction from my boys. I might try sprouting organic beans and lentils though so when they get rejected I can at least eat some myself on salad. That way the rinsing might at least seem semi worth it 😂

If only half the seeds actually sprout, consistently, it may actually mean that the seed itself is a bit old and a lot may have lost the potential to germinate. When I was looking for a seed mix to feed my guys I read a lot about choosing a mix that sprouts at least 80% of the seeds to ensure the seed is fresh enough to still grow and this has decent nutritional value. Dead seed will just remain as carbs and fat since it won’t grow = less nutrient density.
That being said, 50% sprouted is much better than 100% dry! I wonder why they haven’t tried it? Did you put away their other seed so they couldn’t be too picky? Maybe if you too it with the tiniest bit of dry seed that will catch their attention, and as long as they don’t have enough dry seed to fill up on they’ll probably go after teh sprouted seed next.
As TPM said also, once it dries out a bit maybe they’ll like it better, but it seem you’ve got to attract them to even explore it first! Don't give up!

I did Marianne, they never touched them, Ben at least, came to investigate, Sam ran for the hills.
3 days running I put them out, every day they went in the bin.
Alfalfa were always loved by Ben and Max.
I hope you have better luck.
