What a pretty bird! Do you have a name for your bird? Too bad the wings were clipped, often you don't have a choice on that, the breeder or pet store may clip all their birds' wings.

Luxe is beautiful, you are obviously hand feeding him and forgot to put his bib on His wings don't look clipped to me, i can clearly see flights in pic 8, i am worried about him nibbling the fluffy rug or blanket and getting bits inside him but im sure your watching him closely. Good luck with him, i don't think we have any TCB's, on the forum to show.

Ah, I see the flights now - they just blended in with the rest of the body!

Luxe is so pretty - I've not seen a budgie like him before. He (a male?) must be amazing in person. I hope you have a lot of fun with him.

This is luxe my 4 week old TBC. I would love to see any of your TBC as I have only seen yellow TBC and fully white ones with black to light dilute tone wings .
TBC? I assume you mean TCB--Texas Clearbody, yes? If so, I don't recall seeing one posted on this forum in at least two years.

Can I just ask why a breeder would sell a bird as young as 4 weeks old, IMO it should still be with its parents.

If the Mother has lost interest or is plucking the babies then fair enough, but to remove a 4 week old chick just because it suits the breeder is wrong in my eyes.
Sorry, that is only my opinion, if a breeder tried to sell me a 4 week old bird I would question his morals.

Breeders often take chicks from their mother at three weeks, which I would imagine should be upsetting for the mother. Except at around this time dad usually takes over to feed the chicks instead, so mom might not actually care so much who takes that job over. I haven’t had to experience this myself to know how “most” budgies moms might feel at this stage. But it does seems fairly “common” for mom to reject/pluck/attack/leave her three week old chicks to start a new clutch. Perhaps with a different male in the wild? Or maybe people just talk about it a lot when they experience this, and it isn’t as common as it seems. In the wild it would be a good “strategy” for genetic diversity, however, so I imagine it could be more common in large flocks with lots of extra birds available to mate again. Just my thoughts though. If someone has experience hand raising baby chicks, then it isn’t particularly dangerous to take them at this age. As for morality, it all depends on how the birds feel about it. So if mom has abandoned the chicks I don’t see a problem with selling them young to someone who well knows what they are doing. But my own feelings about it are about the same as yours jellybean - if the mom doesn’t abandon or harm the chicks I would leave them with her and dad too, for as long as naturally possible. Edit: also in the states, it’s illegal to sell unweaned chicks to anyone. So the law certainly has a strong opinion on it!
