I have been looking for a non flying friend for Penny for a while now as I have seen Penny get very frustrated that she cannot come out to play with the others. I made a post on a facebook group for budgies that needed homes to ask if anyone had a little budgie that needed a home that was flightless. A lovely lady got back to me to say that she had a hen called Lyra that she was going to breed from but she became aware over time that she had French Moult and so did not. Little Lyra didn't do very well in her flight cage, so she asked if I wanted her as a friend for Penny. So yesterday I went to Dartford to pick her up, getting a cab there and back as it was a bit out of the way. I weighed up the pros and cons of quarantine and decided against it as Penny has been very lonely pinging at the bars, running back and forth and just being generally unhappy and Lyra also needed a friend quickly (sorry Hezz , I know you wont agree with my decision) They have had one night together so far and have no arguing. Fingers crossed they will be the best of friends. First photo I received of Lyra On the way home in the cab With Penny

I've not seen a budgie with FM like Lyra. She seems to be small like Penny. I do hope they becme best friends quickly. You are so kind hearted taking care of them both!

Hello Lyra! I’m so pleased you’ve found a friend for Penny Marianne Marlow. Lyra is very sweet. I really hope they will get along well and share happily. I’ve no experience of FM and so here’s a chance to educate me - is it a possibility Penny could get it too or is the risk negligible? A nice round number of budgies there.

I'm told that it can only be passed on to chicks from parents Hope that's correct skysmum Hezz ? Thanks for explaining that Marianne Marlow. I’m sure you’re right. Lyra is so beautiful and I love the last photo of her with Penny. I’m sure a taxi there and back was no mean feat and expensive too. You’re a brilliant mum to them. I hope Lyra had a good first night and day with Penny.

Thank you all This was Lyra and Penny 5 minutes before they were covered. However, just before I actually covered them, Lyra was hanging from the ceiling like a bat

Aww, bless her. Is FM as it is now, for her? As in can feathers grow back and stay?

Hanging from the top like a bat - that would give me start thinking she might fall and couldn't catch herself! Sounds like she's made herself right at home. Pleasant sleep to both.

Probably mainly making sure she stays warm, as she's missing her nice cosy feathers in places, particularly across her abdomen.
