We're biased towards the green in terms of colour, so I'm trying not to let that influence me. In terms of just colour, it's a good thing it's not one light green and one turquoise or I'd have no chance.

When do you get to meet them Ira? They are extremely cute. I went to the breeder to get a different bird and came home with Barney. Definitely right to meet then and see who you are drawn to.

Or a cobalt, they're nice.
We haven't decided a date. I'm assuming that it will be after Christmas but they're weaning well. So probably around mid-January, depending on when we're both available, lockdowns, etc.

Something nice to look forward to in the New Year. Is your linnie cage big enough for two…just in case?

Lol! It's a second Hamberley, so yes. I'd need another food perch though.

I love that everyone is feeling sorry for the Linnie’s being separated, but getting both would make it really much harder for them to bond with Ira and her other humans!
And I’m pretty sure by the photos (though I’m not a pro), that it’s a female (Lutino being sex linked and the parents not being visual ino), and a male. And housing a male and female together could pose breeding problems in the future. At least, Lottie has been really wanting to nest for a while now and it has really been a lot of work keeping her from tearing up everything in sight, especially her cage liners. They now have to stay under the grate. :/
Not to mention them being brother and sister though of course you just don’t hatch the eggs then.

Not sure I can deal with another girl in my life! My sons are less stressful! 🤣 That being said, I have heard that female linnie’s tend to be the more “cuddly” or more “stable” ones. Less likely to have emotional changes through puberty. Unlike budgie hens they aren’t hyper-actively destructive or trouble-makers anyway. Lottie in particular only chews on her toys and cage papers, it’s just that I have to scrub her cage floor grates now xD Though I haven’t necessarily heard anything very negative about the boys either, except linnies that were not hand raised or at least well socialized as babies can become hand shy or rarely nippy (just a fear response anyway). I suppose this might be a bit more common in boys. My two have never given me any trouble whatsoever (besides the nesting, which is hormonal, but it hasn’t changed their overall personalities towards me at all!). It would probably be good to get a more broad perspective on linnie ownership from more than just myself though. But also, I think when you meet them both you will know! 💚💛

Yeah, just going to leave it to the day. That's part of the excitement, to be honest.
They're currently still in the weight loss stage but are good weights. Yellow is quite small so doesn't have spare fat to lose, but is fine at the moment.
Green has more stamina but Yellow keeps trying, so tends to crash into the breeder's face a lot.
Yellow is definitely the more forward and daring of the two, always the first to try things, like bathing.

The linnies went on a trip to their grandparents' for Christmas, and bit the nose of a curious puppy that got too close to their cage. Green has started trying to talk and Yellow makes kissing sounds when you touch nose to beak. They were ready to leave home just after the New Year, but the breeder's been helping with funeral arrangements for her grandfather and thus didn't know when she was free, plus that's more important anyway. So we're probably going up to meet them on the 22nd unless she has to take the blind twin budgies to their forever home on that day.

Oh my, aren’t they just so beautiful! 😍 How you’ll choose I don’t know. I hope one just does something to make you feel that’s the one. The green is so striking in looks. At what age can their sex be determined?

Marianne Marlow fortunately there are only 2. That did happen with my housemate's sister with cats though. ariella usually it's a DNA test affair. Males usually have more dark markings than females, so green is suspected to be male, but it's not an exact science. Yellow should theoretically be female because ino is sex linked, mum isn't ino, neither is dad, so dad is the only carrier of the ino gene and therefore a female with one copy is the only option for a visible ino offspring. So a boy and a girl could be problematic if they get hormonal, although obviously I wouldn't hatch the eggs of siblings anyway. Green is more appealing to me visually. If there was one green and one blue I would be really struggling to choose just on appearance. We're just going to see which one clicks with us really, or rather hope that one does.

That's the sort of thing I would do too, Marianne. Doesn't help that the photo of both of them decided that it was going in the middle.
I wish there were 3. It would make choosing 1 easier because there wouldn't be the guilt of leaving one behind.
