Is your vet an avian vet?
I believe that they have prescribed Baytril which is an antibiotic. What did they say was wrong with him?

They don't have medicine for birds. Do you have a photo of your bird and his droppings? It might help someone here to suggest something. The best chance for Dobbie at this stage would be an avian vet though. Birds are very good at hiding illness til it's too late. Where do you live?

Hi Charlie, sorry to hear about Dobbie being unwell. Are his poos normal (tight, dry with a dark part wrapped around a white part is how they should be!) Also is he eating? If not put some millet down on the floor with him when he goes down there. Put clean paper on the floor of the cage and check regularly for fresh poo and empty seeds as evidence that he is eating. Make sure you keep the cage warm, you could even wrap a hot water bottle that is just warm in some kitchen paper or cloth (no loose fibres though). Place that near but not touching him in the cage too and keep replacing it when it goes cold. Medicine in water is very hit and miss because budgies don't need to drink that much if they don't feel like it and will sometimes ignore the water if it tastes funny so it may be that his down turn is a result of him not drinking the "funny water" anymore and not getting the medicine. Most vets don't know much about birds so you do need an avian vet to look at Dobbie asap. In the mean time do these things to keep him comfortable and keep posting any changes so we can try to help you. Best wishes to you and Dobbie

hi sarah*glittergirl,,well mum phoned an avian vet and they said to stay with the pdsa as they do know what they are doing, dobbie has been back to the vets and is now on anti-inflamatrys, 0.01%ml in his mouth, and 0.03% pen, by mouth, and am glad to say he is inproving, he is now flying around without crashing to the floor so that is good and is now starting to churp again, his poo has always been like you discribed, and i have given him lots of millet that he loves.and he eats that well. just got him some nice tonic budgie mix that he likes, he does not like being in another cage, he wants to be with oakie, but they can talk to each other, thanks for info charlie

I'm very glad to hear that Dobbie is improving Charlie. It's also good to hear that the medicine is to go directly into his mouth as you know for sure that he's getting it then. Keep us up to date with his progress, and also post if you need any more advice, we'll always help if we can on here!
