I wasn't going to get up today....haven't felt great but I thought of Stanley so did....he didn't seem quite right last night when i put them all to bed. This morning he had passed. Stanley had had a brown cere for years, along with his brother Harold. Both have been active and showed no signs of illness ever. However last night Stanley looked to be breathing a little bit faster and appeared more sleepy. It was late evening and the flock were all ready for bed on their perches so I decided it was best to leave him there for the night and reassess if he needed to come inside to the hospital cage this morning. Appears I was too late, but for him at least he was where he knew and with his friends rather than passing in a cage inside that he would of been unfamiliar with. He appears to have a lump when I've felt his body, so I am presuming it was cancer. It was higher up than I thought it would have been. The vet had said brown ceres on males indicates either submissive behaviours or testicular cancer. With Harold having the same I thought the latter, even though they showed no other symptoms. Stanley came to me with two brothers, Arthur and Harold. They didn't have names when I got them in July 2017, they didn't have anything. It was one of the worst houses I have ever been in and I handed over the money and ran out with them. They had a dog too - I almost asked if they wanted me to pay to rehome him too, it was really an awful and dirty setting. We had a long drive home but it was so worth it knowing they would have a safe home to live in. So the three brothers came to live with me on 8 July 2017. They'd been hatched in August 2015, so Stanley was about 6.5 years old. He was a beautiful colour and had such a pleasant persona about him. He never bothered with the hens, he always stuck with Arthur his brother and when he passed he stuck with Harold. He was very vocal, especially when it was time to open up in the morning, or close at night. Chirp chirp would be the familiar call and he'd be there in the aviary watching me as I walked up, then he would come inside to see me; actually he probably came inside to see what food I'd brought. He was like a little guard - alerting the others as to what was going on. He was so sweet. I am going to miss seeing his little face. I hope his passing was quick and that he did not suffer; I couldn't bear that. Fly high sweet Stanley over at Rainbow Bridge with Arthur, say hello to the gang for me. We all love you xxxx

I am so sorry to hear that you've lost Stanley. It sounds like you rescued him and his brothers from a hideous place, so they could have a good life with you. He had magnificent colouring.
