So, is the debate over - Finlay is a "she"? Really, she needs to develop more pride in her appearance! Get with the program, girl!

tweetiepiesmom I still have a foot on the fence 😂. She did have a brown nose. Now that's been lost and it's pale blue again (just in the last few days). But it's not as white perhaps as I think some hens are. She doesn't sing like the other two at all though. She just shouts and bosses everyone else about. So essentially she is the flock hen!

Certainly sounds henny to me. Gwen has her musical moments, but her cere flipflops almost constantly between pale blue and tan. It's one for a few days and then changes again. Not going nutty brown and crusty again like when we first had her, though.

I think Finlay is a hen too. Her behaviour is just like Jasper’s. It’s always good to have one to boss the boys around.

Yes, sort of. The birders’ will tell you and anyone silly enough to say different that our tawny frogmouth is NOT a nightjar, or an owl, which is very true but they do look very much like a nightjar. Since I can’t copy images at the moment, here is a link: www.bushheritage.org.au/species/tawny-frogmouthSadly, only last week I found one of these big, beautiful birds in our yard not able to fly, I took him to the emergency vet (of course it was the weekend) but unfortunately he had a badly broken wing and was put to sleep.

I love frogmouths. Shame that that little one couldn't be saved. Love the idea of Finlay keeping an eye on Barney.

Hezz I'd never heard of a tawny frogmouth but I can definitely see the resemblance with the scruff bag! Lovely birds.

I was going to post a photo of the one I had to catch, but that’s probably not appropriate.

Finlay is looking very male in today's calendar Marianne Marlow Doesn't he just!!! I'd have laughed at anyone that said he was a she at that point. This is today though, with Toby for comparison on the blue front...
