We fell out a little while ago, she was settling under one of the cages and I don't want that. I couldn't talk her out so I started to put a hand under the cage ... she ran at me faster than the speed of light to bash my hand with her beak. Very territorial! Literally a minute later, she was running over my lap and arms and legs, chatting to me. All forgiven. I think she might be unhinged.

Today, on Chocobo Rescue: "An ordinary weight training session turned into a race against time when Chocobo the chocobo needed rescuing from a sofa that had almost succeeded in eating her"
Yes, I had to rescue Chocobo again. She's taken to rummaging under the sofa and therefore I've been keeping a close eye on her. She had managed to tear out some of the fabric from underneath the sofa - it resembles jute or similar, so I was more annoyed than alarmed. I knew trouble was brewing. During my exercise period this afternoon, I kept hearing her moving around under the sofa but when I tried to take a closer look she went a bit mad and starting cursing at me. She didn't settle afterwards so I had to take a proper look. Yes, she had gotten into the cavity under the sofa created by the webbing and most likely could not find her way out again. She was being very vocal about it which is most unusual as all my birds, when they most need my help, are normally very, very silent. Chocobo might have learned to call for help! I carefully tilted the sofa on its side and started cutting away the fabric base. At some point Chocobo flew out past my face and sat on the edge of the sofa, watching me work. I had to cut all of the webbing out and it's all much safer now, even if I'm not keen on her being under there. I took a photo of her sat on the edge of the sofa as she watched me, I think she looked even more pleased with herself than normal, if that's even possible. Alas the pic is lost as my phone's brand new SD card is faulty. Grrr.
A short while later I offered my grateful little madam a grain of sweetcorn - she reached past the corn and gave me fingertip a moderately firm bite. Lovely! She does not appreciate me getting ideas above my station, clearly.
If there's ever a dull moment here, you can guarantee it's only the calm before the storm.

I'm most thankful that neither of my budgies do such things!

Herman mimics some of Chocobo's less extreme behaviours but by and large, my budgies are not nearly as, uh, adventurous.
Now that Squeak has calmed down, anyway ...

I thought I was going to have to rescue Chocobo again today. She had some fluff or ticking wrapped around her foot. I suspect it was from under the sofa, I must have missed some in yesterday's clean up. Ten minutes of chasing Chocobo with a net, with the budgies getting in the way at regular intervals, proved fruitless, I could not catch her. Thankfully the chase led to the fluff coming off her foot naturally. I'll examine under the sofa again once the monsters are all tucked up in bed.
I know what I have to do - fence off half of the lounge, no furniture etc and have Chocobo live the rest of her days behind bars, where she bloody deserves!

Chocobo does get herself into trouble a lot. It's a hens life, always looking for places to nest or hide!

Hens are where the work is. I just watched Squeak doing rotations on a sky-snake, hanging upside and then right-side up again. Each rotation resulted in clattering Mr Hibs across the face with her tail feathers. Hibs was of course observing the action at an unsafe distance, absolutely rapt. And Chocobo was just trying to break into the fireplace. What an excellent choice for a nesting site.

Dad has started some DIY and Chocobo could not be happier. Chocobo loves DIY. Work in progress - the underside of the sofa. On the right, you can see the access Chocobo has to the ticking that backs up the upholstery of the sofa. On the left, a bit of cladding I've fixed to block the gap. Chocobo inspects the work as we go along: It slowly dawns on Chocobo that maybe this particular DIY job is not going to make her happy: The look on a chocobo's face when Dad actually wins one:

She sees no reason not to think so!
The only thing on the planet that gives her pause is Eeyore. He won't be bullied, he won't be seduced ... he's an enigma!

Well, I've just managed to rescue Chocobo again, from the sofa monster. It was approaching bedtime tonight and no sign of her. I checked under the sofa, there was a single egg but no Chocobo. I know she's been working on the thin wooden slat I'd used to cover a narrow opening I thought might be too narrow for her and I intended tonight to check her progress on it. I upended the sofa, carefully, and my Goat, she'd made some progress. Enough to somehow gain access to the narrow cavity but I don't think she could find her way out again. I pulled away what was left of the slat and she gratefully exited and headed for the cage with all the budgies in it. I had no time for that nonsense, though. I took some measurements, headed to the garage where I found the perfect piece of wood. I sawed it down to the right length, jammed it in the gap under the sofa and I think we are done here.
I've no idea what Chocobo will do next. She will lay anything up to another dozen eggs over the next three weeks or so - it's going to be interesting.

TPM, I am pretty certain I will have a few weeks of this game.
I don't want to encourage laying but she is a kakariki, it's going to happen. I think I need to set up a safe nesting site for her but one that won't attract Squeak - I certainly don't want her getting all eggy. Something on the ground might be ok. Doesn't a budgie nesting box have to be fairly high up to be attractive?
