Does anyone know what this plant is? It's clearly a grass of some sort but I don't know which species. My google fu was unequal to the task of identifying it from a picture search. Many thanks!

Can we have an in focus picture of one of the seed heads? It's odd.

Where did it come from?

No idea! EX-GF was in charge of all that and I've taken over. I have a few plants, all of which I've identified and I know which ones are budgie-safe - except the pictured one.

If it can't be identified, I'd get rid of it to be on the safe side.

Agreed. It's hardly decorative and if the budgies cannot safely demolish it, it's gone.
I'll see if anyone can come up with something first.

There’s an app - well a few - you can get your phone and when you take a photo of the plant, it will tell you what it is. I’m sorry I don’t know the name of the app but if you Google, it should give suggestions

I did try one of the apps - it was no help. I'm reluctant to install loads of apps in the hope that one of them will manage to identify the plant!

Try plant.id. plant.idIt’s free online though limits how many images you can upload in a day.

I am pretty sure you are growing millet! Can’t be 100% so don’t let your budgies near it…. Where did you get it from?

The seed clusters look a little like millet, I noticed that too. No idea where it came from. I have two pots with the same type of plant growing in them both. I have a load of plant pots and I know what is in each of them except for the two mystery pots.
No chance of the birds are getting near them, not until I know it's safe.

I asked a botany friend. They don't know. Not convinced it's a native UK species.

Thank you, blueelephantI'm going to dump the plants, to be honest. I can't have potential threats in the house.

Millet grows fast, it’s probably shot up and you haven’t noticed it…. Yet I would throw it to be on safe side…….this is a picture of common millet…
