When we moved in to our current flat in 1999, I painted 3 of the rooms. I was only 24(?) and had much more energy!
They had to be painted immediately as the passageway was green, the bedroom hot pink and the bathroom fluorescent yellow!! The living room has still never been painted as it would just be too much of an imposition to move everything and all budgies into other rooms to get it done.

The kitchen in our new flat was dark purple, and instead of pulling out the fridge freezer to paint, they'd painted round it 😱
One of the bedrooms was green, a grass green 🤢
The living room had 3 layers of wallpaper.

Welcome back jellybean It's terrible that you had to leave your home. Private tenants really should have more protection. So tiring and stressful for you to have to move. We moved into our current home 19 years ago too. This is the first house we owned after years of private renting so it was weird that we could decorate and when I pulled the first bit of wallpaper off I felt like someone would tell me off. Three layers of wallpaper must have been really hard work. What do the boys think of their new room?

Thank you criswell, that's so kind. Yes, it was a long hard slog, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I went back to our old flat at night in tears a few nights, so tired, wondering where I would get the energy from to go and do another shift the following day. I don't know where those 19 years went, it seems just like yesterday we moved in. I don't know what the boys think if I'm honest, they make plenty of noise, but rarely come out now, whereas in our other place they were out quite a lot. I have two swings at the window for them but nothing attached to the ceiling as yet. I miss having them in the living room with us, but the living room here is much smaller and certainly not big enough for the Hamberley cage. But, I sit in the bedroom with them whenever I have the time.

That sounds stressful jellybean. I hope you can settle in quickly, I find it takes a bit of time to adjust. I need to be moving back to my home (I moved back in with parents at start of pandemic, just 5 weeks after moving) but I’ve been so unwell it feels impossible just now. I’ve only made it downstairs once this year. Urgh! I hope the boys enjoy their new pad, I bet you’re spoiling them!

Thank you starrymist, by the sounds of it you're having a bit of a hard time yourself, don't rush back until you feel up to it. Look after yourself 💐

That sounds really tough starrymist It'll be a big change moving out so I hope that you can wait until you are strong enough before you make the move.

Funny you should mention bruises ariella , I was covered in them too. Oh no! We used to compare bruises and their colours! 😂 it’s hard work physically and mentally to move house. I’m glad you’re now somewhere you can feel more secure.

I hope you will be happy in your new home, I’m sure you will. I’ve been in my home for 44 years, it seems like yesterday.
