yes, he will - I think although different and challenging from Charlie, in a way that is good.. Max was very similar, wanted to be out, but then interacted so well with me..
Buddy will be fine

I'll bet the breeder had both Buddy and Herbie in a very large aviary where they could fly around - hence their desire to be out of a cage. Buddy will learn that the cage is 'home'.

I thought the same tweetiepiesmom that he's used to a big space to fly in, so the smaller cage feels odd to him. He will adapt when he realises he's allowed out a lot to fly about and can go in to eat.

His breeding cages are obviously bigger that our cage, but I wouldn’t say they were big enough for a good free flight. He did say that when we took Herbie back he put him in a big cage and he absolutely loved it……….As soon as Buddy sees us in the morning he starts shouting to come out ( and he is very loud) He bounces and jumps round the cage . Once we let him out he zooms round the room a few times and then lands on the curtain pole. This morning he then flew down to me to say a quick hello ( loud chirp ) ……We let him fly around and then had to put him back in his cage….fortunately he isn’t to bad to get back in……. I wish we could just leave him to stay out and enjoy himself but our house is pretty much open plan so he can only be out when we are with him…… We haven’t had this problem with any other birds and they were always out a lot and Charlie never left my side much after he had had his fly around. Herbie and buddy are very alike and can get through the door so fast when we try to leave the room…….right now as I write this, he is trying to dig his way through the bottom of the cage ….seed, grit flying everywhere! I of course love him already, but I hope he quietens down . His cage is big enough for one bud …..I just hope he is going to be happy………would hate to think that he would want to be like his brother …in a big flight cage.

Well Bo looked like he wanted out just now.. but he's never been out of a cage and his cage at the breeders was smaller than the one I have.. then I thought maybe he wants millet . Will associate the door with millet as it only comes into the cage with my hand when I open the door.. so just had a very successful training session with him whilst in the cage and he's shattered now and having a nap.. maybe still let him fly out as you are but keep practicing with work inside the cage also? 10 or so minutes a few times a day in the cage maybe? That way he gets to fly and also gets enrichment from you whilst in the cage.. Does buddy bother with his toys yet? Bo hasn't entertained any of his toys yet. Xx

ladybird I'm always amazed at how adaptable these little budgies are! Buddy will learn your routine and adjust to it. I also have an open floor plan in my house. In the morning, I do those things that I wouldn't want Tweetie Pie and Buddy to be out while I'm doing them, especially running in and out the house. Around noon, I let them out for the day. If I'm not prompt about opening the cage door, Buddy starts yelling at me! Your Buddy will soon learn your routine. Once he gets that burst of energy out, he'll start spending more time with you. clow1988 it sounds like your Bo is well along to learning and adapting to your routine. Good job!

Update on Buddy. He is still wanting to be out all the time…loves the curtain rail, the mirror, the picture and sitting on the TV. He actually landed on hubbys head this morning and then hopped on his hand. So he is getting a little tamer….. But oh boy he is a noisy boy….he never stops, and still runaround the front of the cage when we have put him back in …….. Has anyone else had a hyper bud? And do they calm down? He is gorgeous and I love the little guy, but the noise is hurting my ears lol…….. I had little Charlie who talked most of the time and he was just funny….but the whistling Is difficult on the ears 😳

ladybird, most of my budgies have been hyperactive (and don't get me started on Chocobo but that's beside the point). So far, all the buds have calmed down at least a little bit and quietened down (a fair bit). Tough out the first month or two and you'll be fine! Delightful that Buddy is head- and hand- tame or at least, on his way there

My little Buddy is also a singer/chatterer. He even makes noise when napping. Over time, the volume has come down except when he's yelling for a treat or wants attention.

That's wonderful, Ladybird. Such a handsome Buddy! And helpful around the house, too
