Be very careful with any cage that has a detachable bottom, lemonora, especially when moving them. If the base isn’t well attached to the cage proper you can run the risk of the bottom falling off and birds escaping. Over time the clips, lugs or whatever that’s used to attach one to the other can weaken, break or just not hold securely. If you are not going to be moving the cage around then you should be right, but I would urge you to make sure you use something different if you do want or need to move the birds.

Thank you Hezz that’s a great and crucial point I will definitely get a bird carrier or a small cage (not detachable ) for vet visits, I wouldn’t want to even risk it opening on the way, thanks again for the great advice I really appreciate it 👍❤️

That is a great point Hezz about the detachable base. If I ever rehome birds and they have that sort of cage, I tie something round the cage to make sure it is secure. Same goes for making sure the little holes where seed troughs slot in are secure when moving a cage too.

Yeah I realized that too Marianne the seed plate holes I’m still trying to figure it out but sadly I have no other options (lead free) I also read that lead poisoning could lead to seizures

Some have a slide up “door” for the seed holders, these are easy to close off with a peg, cable tie etc; others have a flap to sort of, is supposed to, clip down over the seed pot that the cage comes with. If the birds aren’t chewers, I have found taping these down works well. For the cages that actually have a hole that the seed pot covers in completely ( wouldn’t buy one, myself) you would need to get doors from an old cage to fill in the space or fit some small mesh over the hole, neither is going to give the neatest look, unfortunately.

I agree with you Hezz about the holes and not buying it but sadly I have no other option This is my only choice (lead free) Nice ideas about how to cover them thanks I may just keep the seed pots always in the holes but will keep those ideas in mind Thanks again

The image isn’t enlarging for me at the moment so sorry if this isn’t relevant, does the cage actually have a hole in the mesh that the seed pot is supposed to fill up completely or is there a plastic flap that sits over the hole if the seed pot isn’t in situ? If the latter is the case I found (years ago before cage upgrades) that some heavy duty tape such as packing tape or sports tape worked well to hold the flap down firmly. Even when the seed pot is in place, but not taped down, some budgies can be clever about lifting the flap for some unexpected free flying time.

Wow they are naughty ones aren’t they 😄 I don’t know I’ll post clear pictures from the actual cage soon And I really appreciate all your help ❤️

I received the cage 👍 here are some pics And yes they do have the seed pots with the plastic lid and I’ll tape it so he doesn’t push it as you suggested Hezz👍 It’s the one on top (lead free) new Voltrega one The one underneath it is the size that Homer is in now (downsized since his injury) and it’s almost the same size👍 The one on the bottom is the size of Elsa and Luka’s cages What do you guys think about the size to get Luka and Elsa? If I get them like Homer’s it seems a lot smaller I don’t feel it’s fair 😔a huge downsizing But the other size that’s closer to the size of their cage is wayyyyy taller (70 cm) same brand (Voltrega lead free) I know budgies like wide cages not tall I don’t know what to do Any input would be appreciated

This is the bigger one I’m thinking of getting Elsa and Luka It’s almost the same width and length (just a few centimeters smaller) but way taller The store only has one in stock now I mean is it better to downsize (not tall) or almost same size but around double the height? I would really appreciate your help ❤️🐥

I always say a cage cannot be too large; it can be way too small. I’m also not a fan of round tops, but with the horizontal bars you should still have plenty of opportunity to fit in perches and hang toys. So, if that is your best option, go for it.
Do the plastic lids only clip onto the feeding pots, or can they be fitted onto the cage bars themselves? The question being do the seed pots need to be in place to fill in the gap or can the lid, clipped onto the bars be taped in place to fill the hole?

This is the cage Hezz. I dunno if that helps.. Thanks, Marianne. I don’t know why but it isn’t uncommon for me not to be able to enlarge some photos at times, getting a “bad request” message. Often if I try again later, it will do it.

That’s genius I will definitely try that (lid cover the hole) I’ll let you know and thanks for your advice about the cage 👍 I really trust your opinion and appreciate your input so much dear Hezz thank you ❤️
