Sometimes the simplest toys are the best. Thanks Sam.

One of the simplest toys ever is a nice tasty piece of bark. Make sure it's from a bird safe tree. I give mine a wash, then dry it off in a 150 oven for 15-20minutes to get rid of any possible bugs. (Make sure you don't set it on fire!!!)

Would string or a thin and strong thread be safe for making budgie toys? Just to have things threaded on? I'd imagine the thread to be better because it won't unravel or anything, but it's really thing so I wouldn't be able to make big knots to hold things on :/
Any other everyday household items that would make good toys? I made that cloud thing and am going to put it in Munchy's cage tomorrow. I'm assuming it's for chewing/shredding ^^

Start small and then the bead will help keep the other things on. My personal favourite is use a leather strip, Ira. Preferably one that hasn't been dyed. String is okay but you need to be sure the birds don't pull threads out that the can get caught up on. I have a number of leather strips and just thread whatever I wish onto them - bark, beads, bells etc. They can be washed and used over and over: This is a hand-made one of mine - pieces of bark and a palm-frond plait threaded onto a leather strip with a few beads and things.

Ah, okay. Thank you Hezz. That leather strip looks much better. Hopefully I can find some somewhere.

Try craft shops. Speaking of craft shops....went to my local one and made Mont-ster a beaded bell toy yesterday. Just took a bel from another toy and used that with some non varnished beads. Really quick and easy to make really, just thread on a load of beads, add your bell and tie off securely and add a clasp! She hasn't seen it yet, so we dont know if she'll like it or if it's gonna eat her think she will survive, don't you?
