The toy behind our lovely model Juju is something I made myself with undied, unused popsicle sticks, sisal natural rope, and unused plastic shower curtain hooks. I do not leave this toy in if I will be leaving the house because I have read horror stories about feet being caught by snagged "strings", but he hardly touches it. Today was actually the first time he has acknowledge its presence without fear! It has been in for two weeks and he is just now not avoiding it like the plague... Tell me what you think! I didnt want to use any glues is how I came up with this. It is sturdy and wrapped tightly and multiple times. Around the whole thing.

Not sure I can help with your 'toy' juju but I know I have some bought toys that my budgies just won't go near so they're lying in the budgie drawer unused. One is a rope ladder thing but there are a few 'failures'! They know what they like Today I took the cardboard from an empty kitchen towel roll, cut it so that there is a curly bit hanging from one end and fastened it to the cage with some kitchen string. I'm wondering if it's safe? Just ordinary kitchen towel roll cardboard and ordinary string which I've had for years!?

Well my budgies aren't at all impressed with my home made attempt, too spoilt and used to better buys I guess. I'll leave it a day or so longer and then take it out!

You should try them with the crinkle paper from Karen at Naturalbirdco.co.uk I make little bundles for mine then tie them altogether. I can't keep them going on the stuff, and it's cheap as chips.

I want to start making my own budgie wooden toys, at least until Darran www.naturalbirdco.co.uk/ has fully recovered & working again. Can anyone suggest a small lightweight drill (rechargeable) that would be suitable, please? amazon & google searches have been fruitless.

As far as I know @cal, Karen is still making balsa toys, I think she makes these on her own without the help of Darran.
You could always email and ask her.

Karen's been helping me with a few odds and ends, and even a small swing. She won't mind you emailing to ask.

I have a small 'ladies' Dewalt screwdriver, rechargeable battery too, perhaps they make something similar in the drill line @cal. It is small and very easy to handle.

As far as I know @cal , Karen is still making balsa toys, I think she makes these on her own without the help of Darran. You could always email and ask her. I sent a bulk order of chew toys to Karen on Monday She's helped me overcome my fear of giving the buds paper products to chew. I've also ordered a large length of paper "rope" as the play-frame is slowly being shredded to bits. I'm going to bind the bits that are shreddified until I can get out on a forage for branches to build a new one. @shirls I've had a browse through Dewalts website but couldn't find a small hand drill, my problem is that I don't have much strength in my hands & wrists so need something quite small & very light. I'll have a look in argos and such. I want to make swings, perches & ladders until Darran is well again then I'll put a bulk order in. Now the shops are gearing up for Xmas a hobby drill might appear. I'm sure I'll find something suitable.
