This is Princess Holly...
She doesn't usually look as grumpy as that photo lol. Anyway the reason I call her a princess is because she is very particular about toys, food, perches, everything really. So there are very few toys she will play with, just her two beloved swings and a big chunky wooden toy that my brothers' girlfriend got her. So I was recently looking online at budgie toys and I saw an amazing swing. Its called a snuggle swing and has lovely fluffy fleece pieces all around the outside. Now I fell in love with this swing ;D and wanted to get one for Holly but the price! It was sooo much! So some lovely people on here suggested I make my own. So I did...
Firstly Icut a piece of apple branch to the length I wanted for the perch part of the swing. I then asked my dad to drill a hole in each end (I apparently can't be trusted with a drill ) So if you plan to make this please be very careful or ask a diy handy person to cut and drill the holes for you.
Next you need stainless steel wire, its up to you the thickness you wish to use, mine is quite thin.
Now you need to get some lovely soft fleece. Arts and crafts/ hobby shops may have this or you could buy a cheap baby fleece blanket. I went to my local supermarket and spotted these sweet baby hats with mittens, reduced to £1 each! So I bought two to make sure I had plenty of material.
Now mine were already handy in that the tassle parts when removed rolled out to look like this:
But it is really easy to make your own. Simply cut a piece then slice into each side while leaving a gap in the middle.
Then simple thread these onto your wire in a concertina effect, I didn't get a good enough photo to show what I mean but hopefully that makes sense. Continue to do this until you cover enough of the wire (I measured mine against a swing she already has)
Then put each end through the holes in the perch and twist the ends into a safe loop. Here's one I did earlier lol.
Holly refuses to go anywhere near it yet but any "normal" budgie should love it
