Hello all. What do you think of Finkleberry's cere? Today: One month ago: As you can see he is currently moulting. Would this change the cere?

Interesting. Is it dry there? Maybe its just sloughing odd dead skin?

I have seen other members’ vet suggest that this is old skin cells, but I’m really not so sure. It could be a combination of things - old skin cells and dry air for example, but other things to consider are a lack of Vit A or iodine, particularly if he isn’t keen to eat his greens and orange veg such as carrot or sweet potato. It might be worth adding iodine to his water once a week to make up for the lack of it in seeds and grains. It may also be that the replacement of the old feathers is taking more of a toll on him than usual, he may benefit from a little extra protein.

I'm glad no one has suggested mites (so far)! I have been giving them GA, intermittently, over this moulting season. It's not for long-term use but I also use 'daily essentials' which has a similar range of vitamins. Extra vit B complex + calcivit for Finkleberry's "turns". Milk Thistle for Fatty Frediano. I have some iodine but I thought that was more for respiratory problems, but I can certainly shoe-horn that in somewhere... I don't know if there's an additional vit A supplement available. Finkleberry is actually quite good at eating some veg (unlike Frediano who just shreds it ) so I'm trying to get into a better routine with offering it.

AviPro has Vit A supplement but also C & E so you need to factor that in with whichever other supplements you are offering. A range of veggies is always best though, if budgies take it into their heads to eat them:)

Dark leafy greens such as kale and also everything orange - carrots, sweet pots, and citrus (if that’s easier) are high in Vit A, so if he’s eating anything out of that mix he should be pretty right. It’s more of an issue with seed-only diets. Iodine, or lack of, affects the thyroid gland. I’m not sure how that affects the cere but apparently it can. Since the change as been only over a month, I’d be more inclined to blame the moult, firstly, or he may even have had a hormonal shift - boys do have them, they just aren’t as obvious as the girls’ - it might even be a bit of both, in fact a heavy moult could easily bring his hormonal levels down, in my mind. Hopefully that’s all it is.

I also wonder about the quality of vegetables (even if they eat them). Broccoli was always enjoyed by every bud but in recent years they just don't want it, not even the organic kind.

They like spinach but I waste so much, given they only eat a leaf or two & I'm not big on vegetables or cooking... I got carrots this week but so far they are ignoring it (sliced & grated version mixed in with baby corn).

My guys ignore broccoli now for the most part, after it was terrifically popular for a long time. My suspicious is that after I introduced babycorn, the buds decided that was the superior shredding material and so broccoli became history. I introduce new veggies for weeks at a time before deciding whether they are popular or not. Plus some veggies go "out of fashion", only to come back in at a later date.
I have never had any luck at all with carrot!

I have never had any luck at all with carrot! I have had birds in the past who enjoyed carrots. Even some who enjoyed sprouted seeds. This lot.... very hard to please... Tried egg (again) this morning but no luck. Cere's (dry or not) turned up. Even when mixed in with baby corn.

Some of my guys shocked me when I offered h-b egg. They appeared to like it!
I must do some more soon but it's not like they're struggling to find enough to eat.
