We've just said goodbye to my housemate's cat, Lily, and both Ant and I feel far more personally sad than we thought we would, given that she was not technically our pet. Though we have shared a house with her for 4 and a half years.
Xana is, as would be expected, heartbroken, but she made the best choice she could for Lily, as her condition was only deteriorating.
The fact that she was at least 16 years old doesn't make it any easier.
And so off she goes to join Emerald, Munchy, Peri and Xana's old dog in the fields of millet.
We'll miss you, Lily. Even my ankles feel bereft of your bapping paws.

I'm sorry Ira. Beloved pets are missed when they go, even if they aren't technically yours.

So sorry you lost Liliy and her companionship. I'm sure the budgies will notice the change in your routine to keep both them and Lily safe. RIP, Lily.

Im sorry it was Lily's time to go over the rainbow bridge, you will all miss her very much. Fish, Fir or Feather they all leave a huge hole when they leave us that's for sure.

Definitely. Tom and Xana have gone to acquire ice cream. The vets who came out were absolutely lovely, though, and it was all very peaceful. tweetiepiesmom Neither the budgies nor Lily have been allowed out of one room each because of the housing chaos, but they've been more quiet despite the sunny weather, so I wonder if they can feel the atmosphere in the house.

I'm sorry you've said goodbye to Lily. She was part of your household so that does make her yours too. How is Xana doing?

Tom took her away to a hotel Sunday night, criswell, so that she could get away for a bit. She went to a spa near where we work yesterday. Today I think she's spent most of her time in bed. She's grieving still, even if she's not always obviously sad. So we're all just doing little things to support each other. She's been happy to see Pippin when I've taken him downstairs to visit too.

It's good that she has all of you to support her. I'm sure it is helping.

I am so sorry to hear that you’ve all had to say farewell to Lily. Poor Xana, grief is so very painful and real for those of us whose animals are part of the family. Thinking of you all.
