You can also make one at home to save the cost.

I prefer this one so I don't have to touch the eggs.

Phew!!! Hi BB. When you candle eggs, do you have to use a pen light? Or could you use a bright torch? Also, when an egg is laid do they all look infertile until they are about 5-7 days old? Or do the fertile ones look fertile straight away? Sorry for all the questions! Nicola An egg can be candled after 8 to 10 days of incubation.

Thanks BB. How much is the one you use?
So after 8-10 days, only then they will look fertile?

Another egg from Lilly! They look pretty fertile from the outside of the box but I'm not sure what they are like close up.
Also, another hen keeps going near Lilly's box, but she has a box. Should I put an infertile egg in the other hens box to keep her occupied?

Should I put an infertile egg in the other hens box to keep her occupied? I try to avoid touching the eggs and I don't do so unless it is indispensable. Firstly because the hen rotates the eggs and keeps them in an order which is essential for incubation. Secondly because I don't want the eggs to be dropped or broken. Thirdly because odors and germs from the hands can affect the eggs.

Ok. Will she just learn that she has her own box?
Lilly is due to lay another egg tomorrow. She laid her first egg on the 1st of April then the 3rd of April.

Some hens are trouble makers even when they have nest boxes. That's why it is advised to have more nest boxes than pairs while colony breeding. Watch her closely. You may have to remove her if she doesn't settle down.
