Can anyone tell me what these are? The one on the left is newer than the right hand one. They aren't bothering him in any way, but when he's preening he doesn't do this area. Any clues?? Thanks Attachments:

Not sure how to describe them, but the one on the right is about 1.5 inch long, looks as if there is a feather inside it, the other one is small, 1cm ish, again poss a feather in there. The area inbetween has no feathers. After browsing through this site, i was wondering if it's a feather cyst?? It's not bothering him though. Attachments:

They are feather cysts Gubbins due to a feather growing internally , i remove them but take care there can be a lot of blood if not done correctly

Feather cyst is a common skin and feather condition in most pet birds. It happens when a new feather curls up under the skin and within the feather follicle. In other words, it fails to come out of the skin like other feathers. As the feather grows within the body/skin, a lump is caused by this in-growing feather. It continues to grow until the feather cyst becomes an oval shape or long swelling. Sometimes, it involves one or more feather follicles at a time. Feather cysts are normally treated by vets. They surgically remove the infected or injured feather follicle. If the feather follicle is not removed surgically, the bird will continue to develop the feather cyst. Most experienced breeders treat their birds themselves.

Hi BudgiesBuddy, we are lucky with the vet - he's treated one of my old budgies. I did read on a post about someone dealing with a cyst themselves, but as the budgie is not tame and would rather eat your finger than let you hold him, think the vets best Will phone in the morning and get him booked in. Hopefully i won't get bitten getting him out of his cage! LOL!
