Whiskers has had a trip to the vet today! You might remember a few weeks back I mentioned she had a soft lump that the vet suspected was a tumour, it's been there for a year with no bother but it recently had a growth spurt. Well she had an x-ray today and the vet is now sure that it is not only one but two tumours. They seem to be quite deep inside her and it turns out that the egg shaped lump in her abdominal area is actually her gizzard, it's just been pushed way further down her body by the ovarian tumour and is no longer where it should be. The other tumour is higher up, the vet showed me on the x-ray that her windpipe should be straight but when it gets to the bottom of her neck it curves very noticeable around a mass - the second tumour, poor baby. It seems to be uncomfortable but as far as I know, she's not in any pain (or at least she doesn't show it). So what the vet has done is give her a Suprelorin implant. He thinks she has overactive ovaries and the hormones are causing the tumours to grow so the implant should stop that and start shrinking the tumours. It's gone into the right side of her breast and it will need to be replaced every 6-12 months at £80 a go, but I'm hopeful that it will make her more comfortable and it may well extend her life. He advised that it may start shrinking in as quickly as a week, so I will monitor her and keep you all updated. Fingers crossed for little Whisk

Fingers, toes & wings crossed here. I haven't heard of an implant before. I hope it does the trick.

Here's wishing Whiskers the very best of recoveries. I too, have not heard of this type of treatment. I certainly hope it works.

Feel better soon, Whiskers. It will be interesting to hear how the implant works. Modern medicine can be wonderful.

Sounds like you have an amazing Vet Starzie. I had no idea they could do such things.
Best wishes to whiskers.

I hadn't heard of the implant before either, but they explained it to me and the vet was confident that it could make a real difference, so I thought it was worth a shot. Will just have to wait and see, but Whiskers seems totally unfazed by the whole thing and is back to her usual self today like I say, I'll post back about how it goes as this might be a useful thread for someone in the future. I'll try and get some pictures of the lump but she's not keen to come near me at the moment, I don't think she's forgiven me for taking her to the vet's yet!!
