Hello everybody, please, help me with some interesting molting. After the first molting the hen looked like this: After the next molting the hen looks like this (she’s 1 year 2 months old now): Can you tell me, why? Is this some kind of flecking? Why it appreared only after the second molt?

Some budgies change colors with molt, especially at 6 months old. There is a thread here with before and after pictures. Check it out

Thank you very much for the answers But this bird is not a Mottled. And this change of distribution of black after molting is not a common case of change the colour after molting. Anyway, as I see, nobody thinks that it might be a flecking. Thank you for your help, but it has not cleared the things up

flecking is when there are black marks on the head area!! this budgie is flecked....but she is a opaline which can be more prove to flecking!! your budgie had a clear head, then the marking are more smudged

Your bird is opaline and opalines do some strange things. Usually they loose markings when they moult but yours has gained them. I don't know what the cause could be but I don't believe it is mottled. I would define flecking as markings on the head and shoulders when these areas should be unmarked Here are two pictures of one of my birds that suddenly lost the flecking. As a chick it was hard to see that she was opaline. The first picture was taken when she was 2 years old and the second when she was about 4 years old. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of her as a chick. I have a lot of her descendants but this characteristic has not shown up in any of them
