I took Pepito out into the garden today for the first time and he loved it! He chatted to the other birds he could hear, jumped about his cage so he could see all around and ruffled up his feathers when the breeze caught them. It would be good if Scotland got more of this lovely weather so we could take him out more often! As others have said though, budgies should not be left outside alone in a cage.

I am originally from Dundee so I know what you mean about the sun I am thinking about this also as some days it seems too nice to leave them cooped up inside. Sounds like your wee one loved it

I've been taking Munchy outside this week. He loves it. I put keyrings around his cage doors though just to be extra safe and we get cats walking through quite a lot so if everyone is coming inside we bring him back with us. After a while he gets quite tired out though so I take him back inside around about when 4pm so let him have a rest.
I know it's not great to lose a budgie wherever you live, and you certainly don't want to take any risks, but at least they're native to Australia and could, very slim chance, possibly join with a native flock. I've heard of larger parrots doing that and teaching some of the young chicks of the flock to speak, which must be pretty creepy if they're all saying things like "Pretty boy" in your garden... But yeah, not sure how welcoming wild budgies are so definitely not good to take any risks because it would be heartache to lose them even if they could find a home in the wild.

Another thing to be careful, is the cage clipped on to the base properly! Carrying Puck's cage to the car (without him in it) by the handle and the base fell off it, if he was in it he'd have been gone for sure! The clips had just worn out over time, now if carrying him in it I'll hold it by the base instead Good point Matt, there are so many pit falls, but if we all take a snippet from each post we are on the right track, that's all that matters, to say I had a baby budgie on my back all the way to the house and I didn't know, and it came off in the kitchen was unbelievable...........
