Lawrie Veterinary Practice, 25 Griffith Street, Falkirk, FK1 5QY, tel: 01324 624361 (Be sure to say you want to see an avian vet as I don't think all their vets specialise in birds..)

Marianne, Mr Jones is stepping up his retirement & I notice his surgery times/places have changed to reflect that. It looks like he doesn't go to Eagle Heights anymore. Wondered if you wanted to adjust the details on the first post?

Ian & Marshall have just returned from their first visit to an avian vet - VetsNowReferrals (http://www.vetsnowreferrals.com/locations/swindon/) in distant Swindon (around 50 minutes' drive away). It was quite a palaver getting through the bureaucracy before the appointment: because I'd taken them to a local (non-avian) vet to have their toes clipped, that apparently meant they were registered with them, and could only be seen in Swindon as a secondary referral (at great cost!). Finally sorted that out, thanks to the cooperation of the local vet's. Then there was the stress of persuading the boyz that being manhandled into the small cage and put into a car wasn't the total end of the world ... My main reason for taking them was that Marshall's poops have been a bit watery and grey&white (rather than black&white) over the past couple of weeks, and Guardian Angel didn't seem to have helped particularly. Anyway, they both got a full check-up, including a short anaesthetic (scary thought!) so that their toes/beaks could be properly clipped, plus microscopic analysis of their poops. The verdict was that they're basically OK, though rather overweight and probably inclining to fatty liver disease. Now I've got to try and persuade them to cut down on the Trill and move over to pellets. I will NOT be popular! Still, very glad I took them - these vets were clearly streets ahead when it came to dealing with birds compared to the local one.

Where do you live ?
I had to call over to my vet in Lakeside to get some more baytril today and he didn't even charge me for it and it included another syringe .

This vet came highly recommended to me. I didn't manage to get my birds seen by him but the person I saw in the Exotics Clinic was great too and at £36 for long appt + prescription, it seemed like v good value.
